Happy Birthday, BOSS!

Weee… this pile of pictures were hidden somewhere in my pc. While cleaning up and organizing my files, I manage to appear and it was one of those cute moments.

Yeah, I couldn’t help but to remember how busy we were that day… but still could make our way to karaoke. Haha… yuppie. Boss birthday ma!

Happy Birthday, Boss!
Happy Birthday, Boss!
Happy Birthday, Boss!
Happy Birthday, Boss!

It was really fun… and I must say, I am completely wow-ed by how most of my colleagues are good singers. Can you imagine… we could finish singing a full version of Eminem - My Name Is song. I must say, it is really a good song to de-stress yourself.

Lots of Justin’s song… loads of 80’s song. Yeah, can’t help it… we all aren’t that young anymore you see :)

Anyway… HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDO!!!

Happy Birthday Os!!

Haha… I guess Oswald is the lucky one after all. This is the first time I celebrated my colleague’s birthday since I join my new office. So yeah, he is the youngest member. Ah… our little boy have finally grown older.

So yes, the member of the creative department decided to go for some “makan” celebration. Yeah, good food… that is something that bonds everyone of us together. We decided to go to Umai-ya Restaurant which happens to be located very near to our office. Yeap… a great Japanese restaurant with nice ambience (although I find the chandeliar light in the middle a little odd compare to the rest of the deco).

But the best part… it’s like only 2 minutes walk from the office. So yes, I am determined to try all their dishes. Every single one of them… hemmm.. I guess by now I would have cover 30% of what they have to offer.

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

Our group totally love sashimi. I mean…it’s really a simple dish. All you need to do is serve fresh fish and nothing could go wrong. Er… okay, I think wasabi plays an important part too. So we ordered this Sake and Hamachi Sashimi to warm things up. Totally thumbs up! The fish is fresh, it’s nicely sliced. Not to mention the food presentation is awesome!

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

After the first round, we totally got addicted to fresh fish and decided that we want more! Yes, more… more and more. This time around, it’s all about salmon. We all have one thing in common… we all love salmon! We ordered more Sake Sashimi and Sake Maki to fulfill our salmon cravings. Oh yeah… the salmon seems to just melt in my mouth~ HEAVENLY!

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

Yummie… we even had Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab. I must say, it’s really a huge crab..  deep fried till golden brown. Oh, it’s so crispy. See… my cravings for crabs hasn’t exactly been cured~

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

Tempura… tempura!! In my point of view, I benchmark a Japanese Restaurant by their tempura. Well… a tempura seems like an easy dish to prepare… but I would say, many shops failed to impress. The mixture of the batter is simply important to get the crunch yet light feel. Most importantly… it shouldn’t be very oily. I must say, the Ebi Tempura is cool! It’s really crunchy while maintaining the freshness and the juiciness of the prawn. Oooo… I particularly love this dish!

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

We ordered this Unagi Tamago to share around. As someone who loves Unagi to the max, I somehow didn’t exactly enjoy this dish. It’s my first attempt to try this… but I somehow felt the Unagi taste was drowned in this dish. I could hardly taste the Unagi taste. Hemm.. I think I should try this dish from other restaurant to tell if it’s me or the dish.

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

We also ordered the Teppan Seafood. The teppan seafood have prawns, salmon fish slices and octopus served on a hot plate. The dish is topped with some thousand island like sauce mixed with some chili flake sauce. Like I say before, the seafood is lovely… but I find the sauce a little too strong and it seems to over the seafood taste. Not to mention… I really felt it didn’t go along well with the seafood. I can’t tell why exactly… it just felt like it doesn’t compliment.

Oswald's Birthday Dinner at Umai-Ya

I have no idea what’s the name of this dish. When the waitress came in and took our order, she asked if we would like to try their chef’s new creation sushi. She listed a few… but this particular one with mango seems to sound interesting. Fruits… sushi… okay.. now that interest us and we decided to go for that. The presentation of the food is simply beautiful and colourful. They actually use thin mango flesh to wrap around the sushi topped with some kind of “ikan bilis”. In the middle… one can find overload of wasabi flavoured ebiko and if I’m not mistaken… it’s some soft shell crab.. Lovely. I don’t normally  like sweet and salty food mixed together. But this one just tasted so good. Everything just gets along so well together. Stunning yet taste-blowing dish.

Let’s PopInn~

Let's party in Kuantan!

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 09 December 2006.

We finished our very last creative meeting and everything else after that was a free and easy time. We are free to roam around… lepak… sleep and do whatever we felt like doing. I thought of going for a little walk by the beach since it’s just nearby. Dinner time is soon and I didn’t wanna sleep. Little do I know… everyone else thought of the same thing. The moment I step out of my chalet, I saw the guys outside of theirs as well.

When ask, everyone is heading to the beach. Oooo… I am not alone after all. We walk there.. talk and joke around. Not to mention feel some sand and play with some sea water.

Let's Party in Kuantan!

Haha… when things get bored… Loh starts to do some writing on the sand. Yup… velverse marks it’s territory. It isn’t such an easy job. The first few attempt was washed away. But persistant pays off. Yeay~ velverse was here!

Let's Party in Kuantan!

velverse, velverse, velverse… this word was mentioned and I have heard it many times. All are wondering when will the Kuantan post be posted. Some would wonder what sort of pictures I am snapping. Some think my picture have bad composition and practically have nothing in it. When I say… I am using it for some background purposes… they give me this :o “what are you talking about?”. Then again… I am too lazy to give detailed explanation. *snap snap*

Let's Party in Kuantan!

Our stomach start to make noise. We dare not take unnecessary snacks since Prem and Adrian told us, they are bringing us to this place which serves BEST of the BEST stuff. It was quite far away from our hotel. So yes, when we saw this huge Pak Su Restaurant signage, we are damn happy.

At the front of the restaurant, one can see loads and loads of tanks filled with different variety of seafood. Thank god I am not the one ordering. I am quite bad when it comes to options and choices. While Prem is busy ordering what’s cool, the rest of us can’t help but to look around… make faces and snap photos.

Let's Party in Kuantan!

Food arrive quite fast. As a matter of fact… very fast. Before I could finish taking  picture of everyone, we were each presented with the Famous Pak Su Stuff Crab. I must say… IT IS HEAVENLY! The amount of crab meat in this thing… minus t the hassle of cracking up the crab and washing the hand… oh yes, it just adds up to one word… FANTASTIC!

Dish by dish starts to pour on our table. Fried Crab with Salted Egg Yolk, Deep Fried Squid, Fried Prawn with Butter, Steam Fish with Nyonya Sauce and Asparagus with Scallops. We just can’t wait to taste it. I normally don’t agree much on their BEST of the BEST remark… but this… I must agree. The Deep Fried Squid is simply amazing! Lovely and tasty. The crabs, I can never get enough of it. Despite the starter Stuffed Crabs, I still crave for more. It’s really hard to describe how I felt… but one thing for sure, I will be back if I had the chance!

Let's Party in Kuantan!

After a filling dinner, we decided to lepak at some pubs. Nope… no major party and get drunk thing going on tonight. Just a little get together… chit chat, play some pool kinda get together thing. It’s seriously relaxing. Apparently, this joint used to be quite famous and popular and would be full during the weekends. But hemm… I wonder what happened. Anyway… some quiet moments are good. Very very good… as for me, I am dead tired… I head back, fall asleep thinking of what good food is waiting for me tomorrow morning.

Hip Hop in Kuantan

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 09 December 2006.

Day 2 was pretty much less tiring after a good sleep. *wink wink* I have a good partner to accompany me. Hehe… I love waking up to the sound of waves. I love the idea that when I wake up I can see a little bit of the beach view through this thin white curtain. Ah…. just so nice.

I practically called and wake everyone else up. Lots of them can’t wake up due to the fact that we party too hard during the night. Er… or I would say they all drank too much. Imagine I would have to call each room a few times. Sorta waited for them in front of my room… and best of all… only Prem is alert enough to go breakfast with me. The others slowly join us as they drag themselves out of the bed.

Breakfast was okay. The food spread, pretty much standard.. but it’s having breakfast while looking at the calm sea and the white sandy beach which pretty much makes things a lot better. Right after breakfast, I head back to room… rest a little, do some sketching while sitting at the balcony facing the beach. Life is wonderful after all~

We then pack up and gather around at the lobby waiting to check out. Yup, we had fun in Kuantan town and we are all set to venture to Cherating. Right after we check out, our journey to Cherating begins. On our way there, we saw really really lots of good stuff… almost 80% of the shops are selling keropok, salted fish… and best of all lekor! I love lekor but amazingly, I never had any while I am there.

We then check in to Holiday Villa Hotel. It was a total different experience. We had the challet with this “kampung” feel room. It’s pretty much cool. Not to mention, I had the whole challet to myself. Yeay… opss… I mean the whole place to me and little kitty~

We throw our stuff in the room… roll around the bed for a while and then head out to look out for good food.

Kuantan is fun!

When I mention seafood overload, I really do mean seafood overload. Lunch is woohoo… Y.U.M.M.Y. We actually sort of try not to eat too much seafood as Prem and Adrian told us, they will bring us to ‘apparently.. THE BEST OF THE BEST” seafood in Kuantan. So yes, lots of vege… of course cook with some seafood in it. I think practically everything on the table have some seafood in it. I must say.. the prawns… woo… I can even eat the shell!

Kuantan is fun!

Burp~ After lunch is always the torturing part! Worst is after such a filling and delicious lunch. For me… I felt like sleeping. But nope… we all gotta go for our final meeting. Hey, it’s not as fun as it looks you see. We gotta work too… but well, if I have to work… I would rather choose to work more freely. At least the mind is much fresher.

Now… what happen after meeting? What is best of the best? What happen that night? La la la… you’ll see~

Let’s party in Kuantan!

My little trip to kuantan

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 08 December 2006.

After the relaxing meeting by the beach, we all head back to our rooms to get some rest and shower before we head out and look for food. Okay, let’s re-phrase… not look for food… as a matter of fact, Prem and Adrian have everything under control. All we ever need to do is get ready, hop on to the cars and tada…. we will be there.

My little trip to Kuantan

I have no idea where we were at. All I know is I see quite a large number of shops by this road all selling grilled seafood. We stopped at this particular shop name Phuket. Yup, I find the name sorta weird. It’s as if I am in Phuket Island. But well, who cares… as long as they serve good food! I am hungry~

Since Prem loves fishing and is the expert in this area, the task to choose what fish and how it’s being cooked is being entrusted to him. All we do… let’s see, sit down.. order our drinks and wait for the food to come. The next step… snap some pictures and then… EAT!!!

No one can believe the amount of stuff we ate that night. I think we ordered almost 4 different type of fish, crabs, seafood tom yam and fried kangkung with squid. So yes, talk about seafood overload. The grill fish is simply amazing. I seriously don’t know what fish is what fish… but they all tasted just so great. The crabs was my favourite. I felt like eating them all and order more. Too bad, that was all that was left in the shop. So… yeah, at least we get to try some.

By the way, did I mention most of the people in Kuantan think I am some Korean chick? Hemm.. yeah, no kidding man. They have been asking me that since I set foot in Kuantan.

My little trip to Kuantan

While we are in Kuantan, we surely and must visit Checker’s. Yes, the one in KL was a branch from the Kuantan one. So yeah, MANDY WAS HERE! It is pretty much more spacious here. Not to mention the ambience and sound system was super cool. We all had fun, sitting around, chit chatting… playing pool and listening to Prem’s mix.

After lepaking in Checker’s, we head back to our hotel whereby our second round begins. According to Prem, the bar at our hotel is pretty happening and loads of youngsters hang out there. Apparently they are very strict when it comes to dresscode, however I manage to get away with that problem… coz they all think I look like Korean and wouldn’t even understand what they were talking about. So yeah… act blur and just walk in!

My little trip to Kuantan

After the continuous drinking session, we all went back to our rooms and knock out. Since I have an extra bed on my room, I sneak in the little kitty doll I stole from Loh’s car. Hemm.. since the little kitty will be sleeping in the car, might as well just adopt him/her for 2 days and share my empty bed. Yawn… I need to sleep… more meeting tomorrow~

My little trip to Kuantan

My little trip to kuantan

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 08 December 2006.

Ah… my very first trip to Kuantan. Haha.. sort of exciting for me since this would officially be the first time I set foot in kuantan (excluding the kijal trip). This is our Flare’s very first Away Day and Prem decided to bring us to his hometown and have some good food while we could breakaway from office environment and have some creative meeting.

We split in 2 cars to go to Kuantan. Adrian went back the night before as he have something else to do back in Kuantan. Prem drove Azli and Zul to Kuantan. As for me…. being the little princess, of course I have the privilege of my nearby neighbour… Loh to pick me up from my house. Since our place is near to the highway to Kuantan… we decided to have breakfast while waiting for them. Amazingly even after our breakfast s session, they guys still never called. We then decided to move on first since Prem would be driving in a very fast manner and would probably catch up with us.

And yes, we stop at one of the stops as Loh needs a ciggie break. True enough… the others join in just like 30 mins later at the stop nearby to Kuantan. By the time we reach Kuantan, we went and pick up Adrian and decided to look out for places to have lunch. Sadly but weirdly, there isn’t much place which is open for lunch. According to the locals (Prem and Adrian), most of the good food only happen at night. Hence we decided to head back to the hotel and just check-in and eat there.

My little trip to Kuantan

Lunch was at Hyatt’s main dining area. There weren’t much people at that point of time. There weren’t much options hence we head for the ala carte menu and ordered what we feel like eating. I would say the food weren’t really great but it wasn’t that bad. Prem, Zul and Adrian have their specialty fried rice which comes with loads of fried chicken and satay. Yummy~ As for Azli, he had the chicken rice. Hehe… yes, Azli loves chicken rice I would say.  I tend to notice he orders chicken rice at most of the places we dine in. Loh tried their Thai Style Chicken. I never gave it a try.. but the looks of it is tempting enough. As for me, Stir Fried Sotong with Spring Onion. Hemm… it tasted quite okay except the fact that it is a little too sweet. I taste sugar! Yup, I dun really like my food to be sweet. Seriously!

Right after lunch, we each head back to our room. Haha… everyone gotta share room… except for the cute me :) Now… that is how you spell luxury when it comes to being the only girl in the office ;) After a short break, we all head to the meeting room and have some small creative meeting.

There were small games to keep everyone participating and alert. It’s a game similar to “Win, Lose or Draw” and I sorta win the game. What shocks me is actually there is a cash prize to it. Wooohooo.. so yeah, I bagged extra cash! Yippie yay~ I am really good at this game… and that gesture guessing game :) I pay attention one you know!

My little trip to Kuantan

After the meeting, we head out to the pub like place next to the beach at our hotel. While rest and relaxing by the beach, we have some small talks and discussions. Yup, ah… the brain function just so well while sipping the chilled pineapple juice, looking at the ocean… focusing on the white sandy beach. Now, I wish I could work from places like this everyday! And this is not even half of what happen on the first day. So yes, stay tune for the part 2. When work is fun and relaxing~

vel is back!

vel is back

I am finally back! I really had this tiring trip. Fun happy moments, but tiring. I guess it is worst than work. I spend less time sleeping, more time moving around which means less time sitting down.

It was really fun. I had my dream come true, whereby I visited Disneyland. Okay… er… I didn’t get to see Andy in person but I manage to hug his wax figure at Madame Tussauds. Besides that… let’s see, I manage to catch up on the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China.

I am tanned. No kidding… not because I went to Thai. One day in Disneyland will do the trick. I am so tanned. Sigh… say bye bye to my fair skin~ I am broke as well… both Thailand and Hong Kong are shopping paradise. I bought lots of cloths and house deco stuff from thailand and major toy/figurine shopping in Hong Kong!

I wonder when can I replenish my sleep. I am really sleepy and have been yawning… since this morning. Ah… by the way, I miss Nicole now. She went back to Australia dy. Sigh… how come her stay in Malaysia always seems so short! My cuz… come back more often for holidays man!

Bake a little cake for me~

Bake a little cake for me~

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 06 December 2006.

As mention in previous post, DELIcious refuse to let us get our cake in to the shop, hence we go back to place where we buy the cake. Which was lucky, since Jon sneak out to buy the cake from a nearby shop, Bakerzin.

Haha… it feels sorta funny since Jon buy and take away the cake… and not long after that… one big group of us walk in bringing the cake back and told the shop we decided to dine in. Of course the waitress look at us with a puzzled face but well, at least we didn’t bring any outside food.

So yes, awwww… I am so happy. They brought me my favourite cake. Haha… I like mango!!! Cyiak! Mango Mousse cake. It was really yummy. Glad that the cake isn’t exactly large… cause most of the time, it’s really very rich and filling. This time… it’s sorta different. Everyone can’t seems to have enough of the cake.

What can I say, it’s really yummy and I can really taste the mango flavour in them. Hehe… okay… not only the taste but the aroma was simply irresistable. Yummie… I had the biggest piece of cake… and of course, all the mix fruit topping :D. Thanks my fellow friends, for making time to gather together. Muacks!

My DELIcious birthday

My de.li.cious birthday!
My de.li.cious birthday!
My de.li.cious birthday!
My de.li.cious birthday
My de.li.cious birthday!

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 06 December 2006.

Yippie yeay yeay, an earlier birthday celebration as I will be away for some company & family trip the week around my birthday. So yeah, pretty much not staying and sticking around. I finally manage to celebrate my birthday together with my uni mates. Glad that they do free up their time to come dinner together :). Much appreciated! Really!

Hehe… I guess me, my birthday and Bangsar Village seems to be connected in many ways. I remember the previous year, I celebrated with my uni friends at Basil. Ah… coincidence eh? Fate I would say. I wouldn’t say I was perticularly early… but at least I wasn’t that late. I find it quite hard to locate this Delicious Cafe. It is very much hidden, if you come in from the information counter. One would have to go through the supermarket section in order to get in to the place (from inside the mall).

I love their graphics. From their posters to their menu, glass stickers and everything. Hemm… it seems like a thoughtful process whereby they carefully think and brand themselves. I really think it is pretty cool. They have lots and lots all cool stuffs like how they painted the bird cage in white and stuff. It really created a lot of ambience.

Their have an open area which have lots of cushion where one can practically have some pillow fights. Ah.. okay… now back to my birthday celebration. Everyone that promises to show up manages to show up except the host who have some work to do. Well I don’t blame her, work always comes first :D

We all were busy catching up with things we missed out.. Had some great laugh.. and I guess age is really catching up. Imagine the topic “when will you get married?” will never fail to pop up in the conversation. Which of course in my case, “when you gonna have a bf?” applies.

The food arrived… and I must say, they look very good. Food presentation wise, I think they practically nailed every single angle of it. Okay, maybe not every single angle, but at least it works for me. It manages to appeal to me. But taste wise… hemmm surely not the best. I would say, it is quite overly priced for the taste and portion they serve.

Probably it’s a different chef, so yeah… I guess they pretty much didn’t maintain the food quality standard. I think the branch in 1 Utama serves better food. Although a small place and less decorations, I think they really do server better food.

Hemm…. I don’t really know, but one thing I can tell you, they have BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Yes, we have a serious issue about bringing a birthday cake my uni friends bought. Almost a big drama whereby they would wanna charge us some big amount of money. Yeah, I guess that amount of money is enough to buy another 1/2 cake.

For me, not allowing us to bring the cake in is not exactly what I meant by BAD service. Is the way they talk to you which sounded bad. I think I could use the word rude and not friendly… and I think those qualities are not what someone who is in a customer service line should have. What I hate most is the walk of with a dark charcoal face ignoring things. Yes, I hate that when they give me… “complain me if you want, I don’t care face”. I wonder why and how on earth people like this is hired. Sigh… yes, that pretty much spoils a little of the fun. So what happen to the cake? Tell you on the next post!

I love awayday.

Office Awayday: Lunch at Chili's

I love office awayday’s. It’s one of those days.. you work less, eat more and actually talk less. Hahaha.. at least for me. Coz my mouth will be busy munching and eating and taking pictures. Yes.. I am not a MULTITASKING person. I need to concentrate and concentration is important.

Woohoo.. we leave the office for late lunch. Yup yup.. I know… as much as I love awayday… I still need to finish up and be super busy the few hours before the pleasure really kick in. Chili’s!!! Wohoo… when was the last time I really ate there.. hemmmm 1 month ago? Ya I think so.

Ermm.. ya ya.. din really take much pics there lar… ermmm ya ya.. why oni got chicken wings? Coz that’s first to come.. and after that… I am too hungry to even bother to take pics of what I ate.

Office Awayday: Visit to Aquaria
Office Awayday: Visit to Aquaria
Office Awayday: Visit to Aquaria

Yeay… Yeah yeah… Lawatan sambil belajar to the aquaria! Everone I know have been there… maybe this is too strong of a statement. Let’s rephrase. Most of the people I know have been there. They were telling me tales and showing me pics and all.

Nope.. I just won’t settle with their pictures. I must see it why my own eyes. I was quite disappointed with the visit. Well maybe I put too high hopes on it. I expect it to be bigger. And have more fish. Okay.. more BIGGER fish. I feel the fish were just so lonely and small to begin with.

Not to mention I din understand how come spiders and bugs and snakes all were placed in the aquaria in the first place. *ting* *ting* does it ring a bell?

Worst to worst… people who just simply take pictures with their “flash”. I mean.. hello.. can’t you read.. NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY. That just annoys me. I stand there like 10 mins hoping the fish will stay calm enough for me to get a clear pic.. and they goes like *flash* and run! Hate that! Arghhhh…..

Well I do hope they will add in more fish.. and you know.. expand stuffs a little.
