2007: passion - pass it on

A Bond New Year

A year has come and will be gone in like just 2 days. Has it been an exciting year for me? Have I changed? Would I say it is a good year?

Probably I am aging with time… I came to notice time is ticking extremely fast. Everyday… I leave my house in the morning only to see it again the next morning. I asked myself, what have I missed out? I really can’t answer that. Day by day just pass… at times I wonder how come it seems to be passing by faster than it used to be.

Is it just me being slower or is the clock ticking faster? I don’t know… I tend to feel I am running out of time while everyone around me just felt like there’s lots of time left. People will still be fashionably late or say stuff like.. it’s okay, I’ve got time.. I’ll wait. Time and tide wait for no man my friend… they wait for no man.

Well.. I guess that’s life. I used to wish I can grow up to be an adult sooner only to want to remain as a small kid now. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?

Okay… well, it wasn’t all that bad. These past few weeks, I have been busy planning out what I want to do and achieve for 2007. Don’t ask me why… I dunno.. sudden thing. I guess there was a burning desire in me which makes me want to plan things out and hope to execute it as planned.

Well… there are lots of stuffs I want to do… mainly with my career and creativity. Right, I have wasted lots of my time doing nothing and running aimlessly in the dark for sometime. So yeah… let’s hope I manage to follow the breadcrumbs this time.

I have come up with this project which I wish to launch it next year… er.. practically in 2 days time. It’s called passion. Well… this project was something I talk and talk about for like a year or so (click to view post). Of course I have altered the initial intention of this project.

passion - pass it on

Yes, you know I am dead serious about this when I spend such long time to create the logo and even spend months thinking of tag lines… colours and all. Similar to project crossroad… passion will be a collaborative effort. This time around.. it’s not limited to drawings only but a much more larger scale of stuff.

I just gotta say… just pass the passion for creativity around coz I seriously believe everyone is creative in their own way. Which everyone denies and only thinks that designers are the creative person.

Look around you… how you mix and match your cloths… how you imagine of decorating your own home, how you create new recipes and many others… it’s all creativity. So yes, get ready to see what is installed for you next year.

Good question of whether I will take out Project Crossroad? I have no idea… don’t think I will. So yeah… gonna max out my brain cells next year!

New Year Card

So yeah… by the way… happy new year to everyone, no matter where you are. Let’s hope it’s an enjoyable year waiting for you ahead. Err… you would have probably seen this in your mailbox so for those who didn’t receive it, here it is. Well.. I tried very hard sneaking to everyone’s blog to peek for their email addresses but well… some were plain mysterious so yeah, just wanna wish you guys a Happy New Year.

Bangkok Trip Day04: Goodbye Bangkok~

Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 20 August 2006.

We decided we shall miss breakfast today… yes, we need beauty sleep and right.. bye bye breakfast! Well.. not like we can sleep till very late since we are catching the 3pm plane. Which means gotta be at the airport around 1pm. Wake up before 11am… take a cab around 12 noon cause Bangkok is known for it’s traffic jams.

Yawn… we finally woke up… throw our luggage at the reception area and decided to just walk to the nearest stall and grab something to eat before heading to the airport.

Being someone “COOL”, we obviously gotta hang out at this Cool Corner located just around the corner from our hotel. It’s really been sometime since I last drank coke from a glass bottle. Most of the ones in KL was from aluminium cans. We ordered some fried rice. Er… okay, I admit, it was my last day and I am slacking. I forgot to note down the price and address. Don’t blame me… I just wake up from a party night… and I am sad! My holiday is ending!

But what really amaze me about this place… they have this DVD listing and time of showing the particular movie. So yes, it’s like a small cinema where you can sit down, order your food and watch movie at the same time. Now see… if I am staying a little longer, I would probably come and catch Herbie :)

After finish eating… we walk back to our hotel, grab our bags… dump them in to the cab and … sigh…. bye bye Bangkok. It’s sad. Really… time really flies especially when you are enjoying yourself the most. Ah… we check in and knowing we have lots of hour to kill, we decided to get some coffee. Yeah, I still haven’t have enough sleep.

The big signage is like waving at me and welcoming me. Hipnotizing me.. “come to me, come to me”. Ah… Jimbo got himself a Black Canyon Coffee Frost (80 Baht) while I ordered Black Coffee Champ Iced Coffee (60 Baht). Haha… Jimbo then ordered something from the Special Menu. I have no idea what it was. He wanted to munch something. Me… I don’t really have mood to eat anything when I don’t have enough sleep so.. yeah… if you see me with good appetite.. you will know I have a good night sleep!

Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~

Right after coffee, we stop aside and bought our airport tax ticket. Now… a reminder for everyone.

PLEASE KEEP 500 BAHT UP FOR AIRPORT TAX. This airport tax is not included in your plane ticket. Yes, for those who loves shopping. No matter how crazy the shopping spree goes, please do remember to save up 500 Baht. Or else… muahahaha… I dunno what you are gonna do man. Probably ask around for money.

The journey home seems so long. Probably coz I miss Bangkok and I am a little reluctant to leave. Sigh… go to sleep mandy… go to sleep… you need to stop missing everything.

Goodbye Bangkok~

Just as I got home… I took out everything I bought in Thailand and start taking pictures of them. Hemmm… buying stuffs isn’t really the hard part. The hard part is thinking to give what to my friends. It’s not like I don’t know what they like… it’s like… hemmm how to put in words.

It’s gives I choose with my heart… hence I will have to like it to some degree in order for the gift to be picked. Hence… giving it away is difficult. Which… *ting* I have an idea… I will buy 2 of each next time… then no problem.

Haha… okay, I love the plush toy keychains I bought. Awww.. they are all so cute. I wish I have more money to spend.. coz if I do… I would have bought so much more. Some funny and cool diary and pillow case, loads of tees.. to be exact, I bought 18 pieces~ and some small small deco stuffs. Talk about shopping power.

Haha… no I didn’t buy anything fancy or expensive. Most of the stuffs I have was from local Thai designers so yeah… I love the feel of it being exclusive. You don’t see everyone and anyone wearing the same stuff and walk around.

Now… who gets what? Yawn… too lazy and tired to tell… then again… does it matter?

Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~

Very Merry Christmas

Design My X'Mas

Jinggle Bell… jinggle bell….

Wokay… Christmas is near, I’m excited but not entirely happy. I dunno why. Probably I am a confused person. Hehe… but I can’t wait.. to open up presents and all. Yeay… I like Christmas… probably coz of the deco’s the tree and an excuse to buy myself something.

Yeah.. knowing myself, I will buy something for myself. Anyway… Merry Christmas and hope you all design and have a special Christmas.

Now… okay… as you may think and wonder how come the designs look so familiar…. this is the theme and style for the year.. and had been carried out in printed cards and all. So yes… you will see them in your mail box, gift tags.. blah blah blah…

What should I do for next year? Any ideas?

The Family Photo

The Flare family :)

Now, I tend to be a little emotional over season greetings. I don’t know why. I tend to look back. In this case, I was looking at my own photos in Friendster only to notice I have this flare picture that we took during Checker’s opening day. Ah… there and then, our very first Flare family photo. Not to mention it was the one and only family picture.

It shows how fast time flies. We finally manage to snap and update our Flare family photo. Ah… now… the very very second family photo. We manage to snap a family photo while in Kuantan. This time, at Checker’s, Kuantan. Now talk about how much Checker’s and us are linked together. Hope there are more family pics to come :). Muahahaha… in the meantime… I am still the little devil among the angels in the office.

Hehe… Prem just reminded me before he left office today. “No X’mas notes this year? It’s amazing Adrian still have it at his wall.” I just laughed. Oh yes, how can I totally forget Christmas notes :). Too much holiday~

New year… there will be a new year note. I know it… there will be a note.

Project Crossroad: Snowman

project crossroad

When everyone is getting ready for Christmas. When you see Ruldoph and Santa Clause and everything cute around. One knows Christmas is around the corner. I wish there are snowman around but sad to say.. I stay in a tropical country thus.. no snow. Hemmm… then again… I hope I can do something in the fridge. Yeah.. a mini one! Sounds fun eh?

Since there isn’t any snowman around (despite no snow and no submission). This shall be the only snowman that survives the heat. Yes, I guess others just melt under the hot sun… probably got carried away by the recent massive flood (100 years return period rain.. according to Kenny Ng). Ah.. yes.. my "yo yo yo" and full of bling bling snowman. Now who says snowman can’t be funky!

Snowman - done by velverse

* New submission on 21 December 2006.
Ah… the sheep finally found his way to meet the crowd. I know it! It must be the massive flood and rain. I know he will find his way to the crossroad. With a weird and colourful eye and banana as nose… now.. the sheep is back to cheer us all up this christmas :)

Now… you know they are a couple just by looking. It’s true… the strokes… hehehe ah… couples in real life, now they even have a "snow-couple". How sweet . First time submitting, Gigi aka. divine surely melts our heart with a cute and dreamy snowgirl. Hahaha… very merry christmas.

I am The Empress

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents, beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Okay… this is what they say about me. Ah.. I am an Empress.. how cool. Haha… I must be one in my previous life. This thing about me being an Empress still making me laugh this very instant I post it. Hemmm now… they are telling me I am born to make things beautiful eh. Wow… so I didn’t go in to the wrong industry after all.

Wooo… kept the earth barren… now see, don’t make me angry… I can be cruel and nasty when I am. Then again… at normal hours, I am such an angel.

General’s Order

Wu Ke Qun - Jiang Juen Ling

Woohoo… going chinese these few weeks. I sorta like this song Jiang Juen Ling (General’s Order) song. It has a lot of hidden meaning to it. Okay maybe it is not so hidden. But surely does strike some sense to the mind.

I like how it has this strong chinese instrumental sound to it and they cleverly mix some of the chinese opera style to the singing. But then again… the MTV sotra screw it up. Totally potraying the contradicting message from the lyrics. Which is what I think of as bad. Probably it’s intentionally done.. but, I still don’t figure the reason for doing so.

But yeah, I know “yo yo yo” isn’t my language!

Translations of song in pinyin and english is available (click on comments section).

Casino Royale
Casino Royale (2006)

Casino Royale (2006)Rating:

Casino Royale official site: http://www.casinoroyalemovie.com/

It has been a big debate… probably months before the shooting.. er.. maybe not… maybe even when the casting time… when they all wanted Daniel Craig to take up the Bond role in this movie.

Okay… now everyone would have watched this movie and probably is boring talking about it. But well… I know.. I am fashionably late this time. I have been delaying this review for god knows… probably 3 weeks now.

So… my 10 cents worth of review starts here. As noted before the review starts… as usual… I don’t read books so, I will not be comparing the movie to the book and how much is it slacking or staying true to the book.

Let’s begin with the black and white pre-title.I love how it was done (yesh… I have sudden favour for black and white movies). I think it was tastefully done, and best of all… it manages to bring out the summary of how James Bond (Daniel Craig) got promoted to a 007. Well.. I guess I wasn’t the only one who complains about Bond doing his signature pose at (of all places) the toilet. I mean like hello… toilet? What are they even thinking? But then again… some people was too busy looking at Daniel Craig and the fast action stunt that they barely notice it was a toilet.

They then slot in the opening credit… with lots of vector style and motives moving here and there. Yes.. pretty much similarities to those comic based movie. Of course this is a little more tastefully done. Before I watched it, Jon told me I must pay attention to it, coz it is very “velverse style”. Okay… maybe I don’t see eye to eye with him. I was sorta disappointed with the opening credit. Yes, I love some of the ideas… but it was way too draggy.. too long (probably they have lots of people’s name to list). The animation especially when the vector people were fighting was disappointingly bad. It felt like it was a rush job and they just gotta finish it up by hook or by crook type. The hands were splitting up here and there. Aw… god… I wish someone would just fast forward or drag me out that instant.

His first mission right after he was given the “00″ status was to go to Madagascar and spy on Mollaka (Sebastian Foucan), an international bomb-maker. This is where the cat and mouse chase thing happen and trust me… I think it was too long of a chase and too overly done. Too Hong Kong action movie wannabe… to be precise… too Jackie Chan movie wannabe. I mean… jumping from buildings to buildings… going through small holes. Just too Jackie… for a second I really thought I was in some Jackie Chan show. Now fast forward that and the chase ended up at the Nambutu Embassy.

In the process of taking down Mollaka, Bond bomb up part of the embassy killing Mollaka along with some police. His actions was being taped down by the security camera and was released. This got M (Judi Dench) in to hot soup. She and the others in M16 wasn’t really happy with what he had done.

Following the lead from Mollaka’s handphone, Bond quickly ended himself at Bahamas where Alex Dimitrios (Simon Abkarain) is watched by Bond. Trying to figure out what they were doing, Bond eventually got close to Dimitrios’s girl, Solange (Caterina Murino). Dimitrios was killed by Bond when he starts to notice Bond was following him. Clues and clues leads to a case where a new plane is to be bomb in to pieces on it’s launching day. Of course Bond is here to save the day.

Apparently… all this thing that was happening is linked to Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen). He is the banker to the world’s terrorist and makes huge amount of money out of it. He normally his prior knowledge of terrorist attacks to short sell stocks in companies that fall victim to attacks. But this time… he is doomed when Bond screw up his plan.

This leave him no choice but to gamble the money back from high-stakes Texas Hold’em Poker game at the Casino Royale. Bond is then sent by the M16 to bancrupt Le Chiffre. If Bond is successful, Le Chiffre is out of the game. He will be out of funds to continue financing the terrorist and thus lead him to aid the British government in exchange for protection from his creditors.

Before the game, Bond meet up with Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), a goverment treasury agent. Well… they sorta have an exciting guessing game on the train while handing a 10 million dollar cash-in to Bond. Besides Vesper, Bond also got help from Mathias (Giancarlo Giannini).

The exciting gambling part is soon to begin on the poker table. Bond discovers the poker tell that Le Chiffre commits when he is bluffing. However, Bond is later betrayed when Le Chiffre misleads Bond by committing his tell when he has a strong hand, and Bond loses his entire initial stake. Vesper refuse to fund Bond as she thinks his act was out of his mind.

Leiter (Jeffery Wright), who is a CIA undercover playing the game, feels that Bond can beat Le Chiffre and gives him the $5 million. In return, Bond agrees to let the CIA take custody of Le Chiffre instead of MI6.

Le Chieffer’s girlfriend, Valenka (Ivana Milicevic) poisoned Bond by mixing the poison to his vodka martini. Bond was lucky that Vesper was there to save him by activating the defibrillator. Bond then returns to the table to take down Le Chieffer.

When Le Chieffer was defeated, he quickly kidnap Vesperand this lured Bond. He was then tied down to a chair where Le Chieffer repeatedly ballbust Bond by repeatedly striking his balls with a knotted rope to force Bond to reveal the password to the bank account.

In an instant, Bond and Vesper was saved by someone mysterious. While recovering, Bond was moved and fell in love with Vesper. The vulnerable him soon spills out the password to the bank account which actually spells “VESPER”.

The shocking ending revealed that Vesper actually betrayed him. She is actually forced to help Mr White because his boyfriend was being captured by them. In some gun fights and action packed scene, the building they are at collapsed in to the river. Vesper commited suicide by locking herself in the elevator.

However she cleverly leaves a clue for Bond in her cellphone. This leads Bond to hunt down Mr. White and gun him down.

My conclusion.. well actually I wasn’t really happy with this movie.. despite everyone around me inclusive of the critics think of it as one of the best Bond movie. Like I say before.. the opening credit was disappointing. Now… Daniel Craig… no offence, he is hunky, have beautiful blue eyes but I just think he looks a little too old… since it was the very first Bond movie. But the fact that he looks much older than Pierce Brosnan.

Like what? you are trying to say the 007 gets younger by day? Secondly… the overly action packed starting and the somewhat boring section in the middle. Seriously… I think it’s like a roller coaster ride watching this movie. Yes, it’s prbably one of the longest Bond movie… hemmm but I somehow think it could have been better. Sigh… Bond Bond Bond… I guess it’s time to shake some bon bon and forget tomorrow.
