Ah… after a fun trip to Thailand… I finally see Jimbo again… er… after 2 days. Haha… Gigi and Brian decided to dine and chit chat a little with Jimbo before he heads back to Aussie. The location… ah none other than the Alexis Bistro at Bangsar. Why? Let’s see… Jimbo likes kacang and Gigi says Alexis serves the best tiramisu. Why? Coz it’s coated with honey gazed nuts on the outer layer of the tiramisu. This makes it crunchier and simply the best. Well.. I did try it out before. Haha.. talking about it.. it was a funny story. It is rumoured that eating tiramisu will give you this sort of first love feeling. Hehe… best huh? Not exectly for me (read more). Food was amazing. Er… true to the core.. the food served here is better than the Great Eastern Mall branch. Even the cake isn’t falling apart when it reaches the table. Name it.. we have almost all the different type of meat on the table. Beef, chicken, fish, duck, prawns… ah.. lots and lots of variety. Not to mention the different different type of cakes and pastries. I went for something more western since I think I had overdose of asian food for the last few days. It was fun. Loads and loads of food.. we were busy talking about the trip… it’s amazing. Burp… jom makan lagi! Address: |
Eat With Me

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 20 August 2006. We decided we shall miss breakfast today… yes, we need beauty sleep and right.. bye bye breakfast! Well.. not like we can sleep till very late since we are catching the 3pm plane. Which means gotta be at the airport around 1pm. Wake up before 11am… take a cab around 12 noon cause Bangkok is known for it’s traffic jams. Yawn… we finally woke up… throw our luggage at the reception area and decided to just walk to the nearest stall and grab something to eat before heading to the airport. Being someone “COOL”, we obviously gotta hang out at this Cool Corner located just around the corner from our hotel. It’s really been sometime since I last drank coke from a glass bottle. Most of the ones in KL was from aluminium cans. We ordered some fried rice. Er… okay, I admit, it was my last day and I am slacking. I forgot to note down the price and address. Don’t blame me… I just wake up from a party night… and I am sad! My holiday is ending! But what really amaze me about this place… they have this DVD listing and time of showing the particular movie. So yes, it’s like a small cinema where you can sit down, order your food and watch movie at the same time. Now see… if I am staying a little longer, I would probably come and catch Herbie 🙂 After finish eating… we walk back to our hotel, grab our bags… dump them in to the cab and … sigh…. bye bye Bangkok. It’s sad. Really… time really flies especially when you are enjoying yourself the most. Ah… we check in and knowing we have lots of hour to kill, we decided to get some coffee. Yeah, I still haven’t have enough sleep. The big signage is like waving at me and welcoming me. Hipnotizing me.. “come to me, come to me”. Ah… Jimbo got himself a Black Canyon Coffee Frost (80 Baht) while I ordered Black Coffee Champ Iced Coffee (60 Baht). Haha… Jimbo then ordered something from the Special Menu. I have no idea what it was. He wanted to munch something. Me… I don’t really have mood to eat anything when I don’t have enough sleep so.. yeah… if you see me with good appetite.. you will know I have a good night sleep!
Right after coffee, we stop aside and bought our airport tax ticket. Now… a reminder for everyone. PLEASE KEEP 500 BAHT UP FOR AIRPORT TAX. This airport tax is not included in your plane ticket. Yes, for those who loves shopping. No matter how crazy the shopping spree goes, please do remember to save up 500 Baht. Or else… muahahaha… I dunno what you are gonna do man. Probably ask around for money. The journey home seems so long. Probably coz I miss Bangkok and I am a little reluctant to leave. Sigh… go to sleep mandy… go to sleep… you need to stop missing everything.
Just as I got home… I took out everything I bought in Thailand and start taking pictures of them. Hemmm… buying stuffs isn’t really the hard part. The hard part is thinking to give what to my friends. It’s not like I don’t know what they like… it’s like… hemmm how to put in words. It’s gives I choose with my heart… hence I will have to like it to some degree in order for the gift to be picked. Hence… giving it away is difficult. Which… *ting* I have an idea… I will buy 2 of each next time… then no problem. Haha… okay, I love the plush toy keychains I bought. Awww.. they are all so cute. I wish I have more money to spend.. coz if I do… I would have bought so much more. Some funny and cool diary and pillow case, loads of tees.. to be exact, I bought 18 pieces~ and some small small deco stuffs. Talk about shopping power. Haha… no I didn’t buy anything fancy or expensive. Most of the stuffs I have was from local Thai designers so yeah… I love the feel of it being exclusive. You don’t see everyone and anyone wearing the same stuff and walk around. Now… who gets what? Yawn… too lazy and tired to tell… then again… does it matter?

It has been a while since I last visited Singapore.
Singapore didn’t really change that much from the memories of my last visit (that is probably like 3 – 4 years ago).
This time round, I decided to follow my parents down to see the Christmas light up.
I remembered the streets were beautifully lighted back in my younger days.
So many bright and colourful bulbs, it made me wonder if they were on sale.
Santa Claus , reindeers and elf were anywhere and everywhere.
But what I love most was Santa handing out candies
That is how much I love spending Christmas in Singapore.
So yes, after so many invites from my parents and their friends, Singapore.. here I come.
The first day of the trip was tiring.
We woke up early and dad drove all the way to Johor Bahru to meet up with his friends.
We had a good lunch while waiting for Wilson (my parent’s godson) to drive us in to Singapore since it can be quite a hassle for foreign cars like us to drive in.
When we reach Wilson’s parents home, we did a quick unpack and rested while my parents we busy chit chatting away.
Yes, I can tell that my dad has a lot of catching up to do with his friends.
As for me, just chill and rest while listening to their stories .
Later that night, went out for dinner at a nearby place.
I have no clue where it was except the fact that is was at some HBD flat nearby.
Seriously, most of the HBD flats here look identical and I am sure I will be lost if I were left to wander around on my own.
Dinner is just amazing in which I am so happy that we get to try something NEW!
As in, I have not tried this way of cooking before.
This is the first time I tried frog meat steamed with Brand’s Essence of Chicken.
It tasted really good and sweet, and I really love how it elevates the taste of the frog meat and blends in well together!
Later at night, we decided to go for a quick sight-seeing along Orchard Road.
We just drive pass it and headed to Woodlands as we know day 02 would be a full shopping day in Orchard. While driving pass Orchard, I was disappointed. Badly disappointed. It used to be a busy street full of lights and beautiful decorations… now, sigh… honestly, even the decorations in KL looks better than that! Bah… probably I am too tired, I need to sleep! I wonder why I feel so sleepy.
Second day was pure shopping day. Orchard Road, here I come.
My parents made appointment to meet more friends.
So before shopping, we went to have lunch at a Korean Restaurant.
I think the adults over ordered again! On a hindsight, at least I get the chance to try a little of everything.
From Kimchi Soup to Bulgogi to Bibimbap to loads of Kimchi and pancakes.
Burp ! Nothing beats eating all of these at one go.
Next, shopping spree begins! Somehow, nothing caught my attention.
Somewhat feel the items that were sold in Singapore was also sold in Malaysia, but more expensive (of course) due to the currency exchange .
The fact that I am broke also explains why.
Yeah, so tagging along parents for trips like this are good for my wallet.
For dinner, we manage to try some traditional Chinese food.
According to my dad’s friend, the restaurant owner came from China.
We get to try something new. I don’t know what they called, it is some kind of dough being cooked together with vegetables and meat.
It is a little sticky, but nice.
And the dumplings were so good. My dad’s godson loved it so much that we had to repeat our orders. Yummy!
Day three is the best. For the first time, we visited the Esplanade, which in my opinion looks like a big durian.
Not forgetting the Merlion Park as well since it was nearby.
The close up view of the texture of the Merlion is amazing. To date, I still wonder how a Mermaid and the Lion combined together?
We spend a lot of time taking pictures there while dad spend a lot of time trying to figure out what building and what building was there previously.
Yes, dad used to work in Singapore like 30 to 40 years ago, so he had a lot of story to tell.
He had been telling me histories and stories about Singapore which is pretty interesting.
So yes, the big DURIAN (Esplanade) is really beautiful.
I still cannot imagine how a fruit can give such wonderful inspirations to the designers.
Despite the disappointment I had with the Christmas light up, the Esplanade visit sort of compensated for it.
Did I mention, it rained non-stop during our entire trip in Singapore?
I am sure everyone from Malaysia would remember the massive flood in Johor.
And you guessed it right. I was one of the lucky ones that got stuck in the jam for 8 hours from Singapore while coming back to Johor Bahru.
A trip that normally only takes 40 mins is now 8 hours, not forgetting to add another 3 hours to reach PD.
So yes, that’s a whole day gone while my butt is aching!
So yes, while I am disappointed with the light up and the 8 hours jam, I am happy to spend time with my parents. Let’s pray for better luck the next time when I visit Singapore.

Chocolates 🍫, booze , great food and great company in my opinion is all it takes to make me feel life is perfect.
I would say my cousin, Nicole knows me well enough (despite she only score 40% in the “know me” test) to know this.
I decided to come up with this ending post for Nicole’s trip by showcasing all the lovely gifts she got me.
She bought me loads of “Ooo.. these are not sold here (Malaysia)” TimTam’s chocolates.
Previously, I was so jealous of another blogger when I saw that they posted a lot of different TimTam’s flavours.
Now, I can finally taste them and not just look and envy and Dangerous Liasons is my favourite among the three flavours.
Besides TimTam, she also got me loads of KitKat bars.
The Honeycomb flavour is the best followed by t he Cookie Dough ones.
The chocolate smoothness are really distinguishable and we all have to agree the ones made in Malaysia taste pretty bad. They were always dry and flaky. While I am not a KitKat lover, the ones Nicole got me makes me fall in love with KitKat all over again.
As for the Pause chocolate (I am not sure if I can call it a chocolate bar), I didn’t actually like it.
It tasted like a healthy fruit cereal bar instead of chocolate bar.
She also got me a set of miniature Absolut vodka!
It’s one of the best mixer for cocktails and these mini and cute version is to die for.
I know I am suppose to drink it but for now, I think I will just keep it as a display.
My sweet cousin even got me something when she visited Korea.
She did ask me what I wanted and I told her I want “everything and anything”.
And guess what? She bought me this cute traditional Korean couple dolls that comes with cute traditional Korean costumes since I love to collect display figures
She also bought some local snacks and delicacies, in which I find some of them taste weird, but still a good try.
I missed out the kimchi she brought back. She was there and learnt to make some when she was travelling there.
No kidding, she tapau-ed it back for me to try, and it tasted so good .
My cuz is just so sweet, right! 😉
Thanks so much cuzzie! 😘

After a wonderful curry lunch, my besties arranged to have birthday dinner with me.
Since Gigi can only finish work later, our dinner is slightly delayed.
Originally, we decided to try this fondue place in Sri Hartamas.
However, they were already closing when we arrived since it is close to 10pm.
Since they are closing when we arrived, I suggested that we try Kiwi Express since I have tried it with my other friends before.
I would say they serve quite good food and are open till late. So the best place to fit our get together.
We had a simple yet flavourful dinner. I ordered the Cantonese Style Fried Kuey Teow with Deer Meat while Gigi had the Kiwi Express Mix Grill Set and Brian trying out their spaghetti (I forgot what he actually ordered ).
We also ordered Fried Sotong with Honey Sauce. And I must say the Fried Sotong is SUPERB.
The battered squid itself is crunchy, while it is glazed with sweet honey taste.
It was so good that the Fried Sotong finish way faster than our own main course.
I just love the food here. It is one of those place where they serve something pretty normal but just nice.
Oh yes, like the name of their shop – the kiwi juice is a MUST order. They aren’t called the Kiwi Express for no reason.
The kiwi juice is made of 100% kiwi fruit.
One can actually taste the texture of the fruit still.
As a true blogger, taking a lot of photos especially with the bouquet of sunflower is a must.
It’s a wonderful night spent with wonderful people, at a restaurant with huge tree and loads of fairy lights.
Just perfect.
Thanks for everything my friends 😊 Thank you!

Yippie yippie yeay… the little princess just came back from a relaxing Kuantan trip and yup, wake up to my big day! Haha… yup, the princess is one year wiser! Time pass by so fast… sigh, at times it is pretty much scary. But then again… it’s a happy thing.
Work is as usual, but lunch is different. Hehe… the office decided that we should celebrate my birthday somewhere else instead of in Hotel Maya (again). Hence we decided to try something different. Something really near yet we never try before.
Prem made a reservation at The Deccan Indian Cuisine. Woo.. of course I have no objection since I love Indian Cuisine. I love spicy food… but nothing too spicy. For a building nearby such a busy road, it’s really pretty much empty. We were practically the second customer in the entire place.
Since Prem suggested to dine here, we pass the task of ordering food to him. Seriously, I have much problem trying to pronounce what I would love to order. In cases like this… I would just point to the menu if I have to.
Okay… I always loved Palak Paneer. It’s actually cubes of cottage cheese cooked in spinach puree. I tried those before else where but I never know what it’s called. Most of the time I would refer to it as the spinach dish. I can really say, the ones served here is pretty much thicker than what I usually have. Ah… with cottage cheese… HEAVENLY~
Other food we had includes Murgh Lababdar (Chicken cooked in tandoor and simmered in rich tomato butter gravy flavoured with dried fenugreek), Machchi Ghulabi Handi (Fresh fish pieces simmered in a spiced tomato and brown onion gravy), Tadka Moong Dal (A rich preparation of yellow dal), Deccan Special Surf & Turf Platter (Assorted barbecued platter of chicken, mutton and fish delicacies), Roganjosh (Tender pieces of mutton cooked in spicy Indian gravy).
Everything looks like they come in small portion but mind you, they are seriously filling. Believe or not… with all the macho knights surrounding me, we can’t finish what we ordered. I guessed we ordered too much carbs. But… the Naan, Roti Prata and the rice is a must to go along with the dishes.
I really enjoyed all the dishes. They are just so yummy. Probably it’s been a while since I had proper Indian food. But seriously… I want more! Sigh… if only my tummy listens to me and make space for more food!
While I was happily dining like a princess, Prem’s phone rang. It seems someone was suppose to deliver something to our office. Since they can’t wait for us to finish our lunch, they asked for our lunch location and decided to send here instead.

When I was chewing… I saw this delivery guy holding a bouquet of flowers walking towards the restaurant. Then the manager came and asked if I am Mandy and said there is a delivery for me.
The first thing that strike my mind, “SHIT!!! Don’t tell me that is for me”. Don’t get me wrong, not that I don’t like flowers… just delivered to my lunch place is a little… dramatic la. Worst is everyone on my table looks at me one kind… asking me who send me flowers. I sorta thank god, that we didn’t actually dine at a packed place.
Then again… before even looking at the card, I already knew. How come? Not much people know I like sunflowers. Hehe yup, sunflower is one of the three flowers I like.
So yup, bingo… it’s from Gigi and Brian. Hehe… yup, they look beautiful don’t day? Yeah, sunflowers always give me this feeling that hope is always there. Probably it’s cheerful colour… I am not sure… but it surely make me happy.
Thanks for the flowers and for such a lovely lunch. *burp* It’s a really beautiful day. Then again, I still won’t make a wish 🙂

Evening Hours, such a beautiful name that Brian thought of for our gatherings.
It all started with our cooking projects and a reason to gather.
In the future, when you see the word Evening Hours you will know it is related to our cooking and gatherings.
And I would like to thank Gigi for creating the Evening Hours logo.
The first Evening Hours gathering was at Brian’s house since his kitchen was well equip and has a cosy ambient.
Since it is a cooking project, everyone needed to cook a dish.
Hence Gigi helped to do grocery shopping for all the needed ingredients since me and Brian was busy at work.
As for Jon and June, since they can’t really make it to cook, we gave them a chance to buy some food instead of them cooking.
We decided to start preparing our dishes first so that everything will be ready when Jon and June arrive.
Gigi is busy preparing – cutting up meat, tomatoes, mushrooms as she is going to cook Spaghetti 🍝.
Brian on the other hand is making Bake Tomato with Baby Leek and Balsamic Vinegar (Jamie Oliver style).
As for me, I am cooking my signature Pork Rib in Orange Sauce.
The most difficult part was marinating the pork rib and squeezing orange juice without a juicer.
Yay! Seems everyone was busy finishing their masterpiece and cooked something that compliments each other dishes.
Our timing was perfect. Jon and June arrived just in time.
Jon brought some cheese sausage while June prepared some sandwiches from home and even brought dessert.
With some wine, we now had a complete meal.
As we finish our meal, sat down for a good chat, Jon suddenly made a bold suggestion to go Genting 😲!
And we are up for it. Of course we all say OKAY!
So, let’s wait up for my next post about our Genting adventure.

Since Nicole left, I continue my normal hanging out and watching movies routine with my buddies.
Eating is what I do best (so does everyone else).
This time round, we decided to have some Japanese food before the movies.
And in KLCC, we are down to only 3 choices – Genki Sushi, Sushi King or Nippon Tei.
We decided on Nippon Tei since we have tried Genki Sushi and Sushi King before.
This is our first time here, and everyone ordered their own set.
I have a sudden craving for beef, and I am glad they have pages of beef dishes on the menu.
I end up ordering Beef Teriyaki set while Gigi ordered the Beef Teppanyaki set.
Angeline on the other hand ordered the Saba Shioyaki set since she is a white meat eater.
While for Brian, I don’t really remember what he ordered.
I think I am starting to be forgetful .
We each also ordered extra for sharing.
Me and my Agedashi Tofu, Gigi ordered Soft Shell Crab while Angeline ordered Edamame.
I didn’t manage to try other items aas I was busy enjoying my plate of beef.
While it isn’t really great, it is enough to satisfy my cravings.
As for the Agedashi Tofu, I think it needed quite some improvement since I have tried better previously in One Utama.
I can’t recall which shop it is, so I will go there again and blog it out next time.
