Eat With Me

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 10 November 2006.
Everyone have different cravings of their own.
When everyone around me talk about food, it makes my craving list grew.
And I am sure it doesn’t only happen to me.
While I was chatting with Gigi the other day, I was telling her I had this sudden cravings for Kung Pao Chicken and Nam Yue Pork Ribs.
Haha, as you can tell I am a meat lover 🍖 and carnivore. I love meat! Yummy!
So before our midnight movie, we stop by Choi Keng Restaurant along Jalan Alor for dinner.
According to Gigi, they serve one of the best stir fried dishes in town.
I was disappointed with their Nam Yue Pork Ribs as I find that it isn’t seasoned and marinated enough.
The fermented bean curd taste is too mild while the pork rib fails to absorb the strong taste.
So I can only use one word to describe this dish – TERRIBLE.
While the Kung Pao Chicken is OK except the fact that it was a little too sweet for my taste.
The dish is good, just I don’t like my main dish I prefer nothing too sweet.
As for the vegetables and tofu, it was pretty standard.
I personally believe that “safe” dishes like this can never go wrong.
And only people like me would be able to screw up a vegetable and tofu dish.
No kidding! If any restaurant manage to screw up on dishes like this, be sure not to return!
Gigi also agree that their food standard dropped from her last visit.
Maybe they have changed cook or the cook is in a bad mood 😅.

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 21 July 2006. The day when everyone felt like eating steamboat. Something soupy and spicy to warm our stomach. I think it’s been a while since I ate steamboat. I always liked steamboat. I never actually understand why. But it’s fun and simple food. Everyone knows how to do it. The dinner started late as some of them have to work late. I think all… since all of them are Gigi’s colleague. Me and Gigi is first to arrive and we decided to order food first since most of them are starving. The rest seems like they have strong sense for food. They all arrive when the food arrive. Hemmm talk about good timing. Woohoo…. Evan was suppose to join us but he have some problems (last minute). 🙁 Sigh… I have not seen him for ages and he can’t make it. But well, the fun must still go on. We all take our time and eat slowly while taking some pictures. The food…. hemmm I sorta felt their standard was a bit off that day compare to the previous time me and Gigi went… or maybe I lost my appetite. Gotta go back one more time to reconfirm.
After food, we decided to go somewhere nearby and play pool. Brewball at Phileo Ampang was the closest. I once work nearby there. And everyday after work, we all would just walk down and play a while before heading back. Wooo.. how relaxing. Yeah, those were the days. Now, hemmm… playing pool is an ocassional thing. Well… as usual, when the others were playing pool, the remaining people would sit down, chit chat, snap pictures and all. It was cool, I think everyone sorta enjoyed the day except for Jennifer. Yeah, she is new to playing pool. And she was sorta shy to learn. Hehe.. but well, at least she likes foosball 😀 |

Finally, we had the change to get together and meet up since Stella is free.
I went back to visit my previous office and meet up with my ex-colleagues.
Yes, the cute and funny bunch.
Stella is still the same and loves to take picture.
And when we get together, the usual snap snap snap 📸.
Which reminded me, have I ever mention that she is the biggest influence to me when it comes to blogging.
Yes, it all started when I saw her taking fun daily pictures and posting it.
And soon, it became a habit for me to take pictures.
Back to our gathering, we practically take pictures at every corner of the office.
Haha 😂, everyone else in the office look at us weirdly but who cares.
When I am with people who are willing to do crazy things with me, I will surely do it.
Keat and Maggie were also at office and joined us for dinner but there were some delay due to work.
While we were busy taking pictures, everyone is thinking hard where to eat.
Stella suggested Umai-ya, since it is one of her favourite place.
I didn’t object, since they serve really good Japanese food.
While the place is small, it is rather cozy.
Unlike their place, their food portion is quite generous.
I personally quite like the place since they have lots of specialty sushi that they created.
It sure is a good choice to dine and get together with them.

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 17 July 2006. Okay.. many people tell many lies in order to make this surprise party happen. So yes, many humans were harmed in the processed. Many trust were broken… many human resources were brought together to make the event happen. It was the first time Gigi celebrating Brian’s birthday together. Yes, she wanted to surprised Brian. Well, obviously everything was more panic, scary, exciting at the same time since it was the very first time. They just got together and I could understand how she tries to get everything to perfection. We all decided to sneak to Brian’s office to surprise him. Gigi didn’t know how to as, when she offlines.. Brian would sensed something. I told her to leave her YM on and asked Alan or Winson to close it for her when they decided to leave office. Gigi left work early, got ready and come and pick me up. I then help her get down and pick up the cake she ordered 3 days ago. Ah…. together, we just drive all the way to Sunway. Yes.. Gigi was so panic. I can tell from her voice and actions in the car. When we arrived, Angeline, Winson and Alan arrived as well. We all then sneak up quietly to Brian’s office. Oh yeah, how we know he will still be there? We teamed up with Jon a few days before hand and make sure he gives Brian enough work to make him stay. Hahaha… we gotta be cruel to be kind at times. Brian was sorta surprised when we all bashed in. His colleagues Lek and Kevin was sorta surprised as well. They then stop work and went dinner together at Atrium, Sunway. The food there was not really good. It was rather cold and what can I say, pricy. I had the fettucini cabonara. I think it tasted sorta weird with the overdose of olives. Brian had the tandoori chicken with puri. The chicken was sorta cold and the puri was sorta soggy. Right after we had dinner, the cake that we asked the people at Atrium to keep aside was brought out. The lights were dim and everyone started to sing the traditional birthday song. Ah yes, lots and lots of strawberry. Everyone have their share of strawberry cake. Hehe… Gigi kept her promise by giving Brian a kiss. Mouth-to-mouth one when she asked us to help surprise Brian. Haha.. she have been thinking of ways to dodge us from taking pictures for days. Hemmm.. notty notty! But it was sweet~ to see both blush and smile like little kids. Jon, Lek and Kevin left the place after the dinner as they still have work to rush. The rest of us just stay back and play some pool.
Brian and Angeline was busy playing pool. The rest of us were rather bored… that is when me and Gigi decided to snap snap snap and snap photos all the way. Wooohoo… not only my cameraphone was used. Winson’s cameraphone was busy snapping pictures as well. Everyone was busy with their own thing.. those that were playing pool.. continue playing pool.. those that were busy with the cameraphones continue being busy.. while those that were busy talking… continue talking. Before everyone goes home, Brian opened up all the presents. Alan and Winson bought Brian Ferrero Roche. Haha… I bought him chocolate as well. But I bought him some japanese dark chocolate. Yes, he loves dark chocolate. The process of buying him this gift was simply hilarious and funny. Yeah, doubt I will talk about it here (right, if you really are that curious to know, come ask me when you see me). Ah.. the lovely present from Gigi… hehe. Gigi bought Brian a Bvlgari perfume set. I went and help her picked the present. I can say, that is the first time in my life, my nose just can’t differentiate any perfume smell at all and it all smell the same. We smell so many perfumes that I think the coffee beans barely help anymore. But well, it was a fun and exciting birthday party I must say. Hehehe… now everyone’s heart can pump a little slower. Backdated post. Actual event took place on 12 July 2006. Yeah, like I say in my previous post, line up of birthdays and farewell just strike me. Right after having a sorta like farewell dinner and drinks with LKY. Now, Jae Sern is leaving town to go back to New Zealand after taking 2 weeks break to visit his nephew. Hehe… obviously we did abit of catch up and went party together. One must wonder why no post or pictures telling that he came back. Actually, we did went clubbing the weekend he arrive but it was too dark inside and all pictures turn out COMPLETE BLACK. Ah… yeah, back to the dinner before he left. We decided to go to back to the chinese place me and Gigi went the other time. Since we all wanted chinese. So yes, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao which is located in Lot 10. Previously we ordered dishes and rice. This time around, we decided to try their specialties which is obviously La Mian and Xiao Long Bao (Steamed Pork Dumpling). We ordered a bowl of noodles each. Jae Sern have La Mian with Spice Spices Beef (RM12.00), I ordered La Mian with Beef in Chili Oil (RM12.00), Gigi ordered La Mian with Boneless Beef Tender (RM13.00) and Brian ordered La Mian in Hot & Sour Soup (RM10.00). We then ordered Spice Beef Shank (RM9.00) and Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumpling (RM7.00) to share around. I personally think my bowl of noodles taste superb. Wasn’t that spicy but it has this strong sesame fragrance. The beef is just so tender and absorbs the sesame and chili oil with beef… just simply amazing. I felt the Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumpling wasn’t that impressive. I am not sure… probably it’s their style. I felt it was lack of something and the meat somehow felt overcook. After dinner, we then walked to Dome and have drinks and chit chatted abit. Yeah, the Crystal Jade shop was closing then. We hang out a bit and we all liked Jae Sern’s T-Shirt so much with lots of colourful “family” member. Hahaha… wonder when will he be back to party with me 😐 Address: Address: |

Another day, another Buka Puasa Buffet.
How can we stay away from spicy food during the Buka Puasa time.
I love to eat, and appreciate great company to eat with especially during the Buka Puasa times.
Chowing down lots of good food together is really exciting and fulfilling.
Adding in the small little talks and laughter is even better.
We decided that we should chill out and have some Buka Puasa Buffet together since Jit just came back from China 2 days ago.
We tried our many places for Buka Puasa event, so we decided that it is only right for us to try out new places.
Since all of us have not tried the Buka Puasa Buffet at Equatorial Hotel this year, this will be the pick.
It seems their Buka Puasa buffet spread hasn’t really change much for the past 4 years.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a complain. I am just glad I am still able to find familiar foods and taste.
I remember the good old times when our old office, XM is located right next to Equatorial Hotel.
Back then, we will have our Buka Puasa gathering here every year.
While their spread isn’t as grand as the Shangri La’s, but trust me their food quality is fantastic.
Their food is fresh and they are still roasting the lamb (which is the main highlight) when we first arrived.
They were also busy bringing out pots and pots of hot soup and dishes.
What I really like is that they made quite a number of food on the spot itself such as roti jala, pancakes, fried ice cream.
They even serve fresh seafood, whereby all you needed to do is pick your own seafood and pass it to them.
They will cook it on the spot and what is better than food served hot instead of being heated up with candles?

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 9 July 2006. One year older, one year wiser. That is what they always say. I guess Brian and Jessy just got wiser that instant. It’s their birthday and our uni friends all get together and celebrated. Jon was the organizer this time. He brought us to this Hakka restaurant outside of Times Square. Yeah, he just brought his parents there a week ago and think it was a nice place so he recommended it to us. Since most of us don’t really know the way, we group up at Times Square in front of Borders. We then walk in a big group to the restaurant. I never know it’s actually that near. Jon have pre-ordered food. So once we were there, all we ever need to order is drinks. The food came non stop. We all wonder how many dish did Jon order. He ordered Lui Cha… which he recommended it very much. Saying it is a traditional Hakka dish and we must try it. It was my first encounter with such weird dish. It comes with a bowl of vegetable soup. No idea what was blended. The we have to add in more chopped vegetables, peanuts and lots more and eat it… or I should say drink it. It’s got this weird taste… ermmm not in a taste bad way. It’s got things stinging feel after each spoon and the after taste of the Lui Cha is just different. Unexplainable in words. Jon ordered the Pork Knuckles which was an instant hit with the boys. The Cha Yuk (Pork marinated with fermented bean curd.. which was then deep fried) is everybody’s favourite as it taste really good. The stir fry deer meat taste very much like pork except it’s sweeterand very tender. The fish was okay but there were several people who doesn’t like fish thus… there were many left to go around. The stir fry eggplant, deep fried stuff toufu and stir fry kailan was a goner in a blink of an eye as many of us were watching our diets. And greens and toufu seems to just fit in perfectly. Suan Pan Zhi (round little dumpling made of yam mixed with tapioca flour which was then steamed. It was then stir fried with meat and bean sprout) was something new as well as it was my firs try. I think it tasted good” Everyone was pretty much satisfied with the dinner. Jerry was especially happy as he loves to eat chinese dishes. By the time the cake came, everyone was full to the max but once they saw the ice-cream cake, they all just got so tempted. So tempted that no matter what happens, how hard it is, they will find a place to shove that slice of cake in. It was a FILLING, FULL yet FUN birthday celebration. Yes, I was surprised… I have my many first encounter for the day. I tried many new dishes… and learn more about Hakka dishes. Happy Birthday Brian and Jessy!! Well do it all over again next year! 😀 |
