Besides being late for my outings note… now I am even late for my movie reviews. But then again… I would spoil all the fun if I had reviewed it earlier. Hahaha.. if you manage to MSN or Yahoo me and ask me about the movie. I would have told you if it’s worth a watch. But then again… people’s taste might vary.

Poseidon… is a movie base on the 1972 movie “The Adventure of Poseidon”. Well… I’ve not seen the 1972 version and well… barely know much about how it was back then thus there isn’t much thing I can compare and want to compare with.

The movie, in my humble opinion seems like Titanic and Armageddon combined together. Well, obviously this movie focus more on the sinking ship and all rather than the “you jump, i jump” thingy. I foresee much more guys are interested in watching this movie compared to titanic (based on the number of guy friends watching this and not complaining to titanic). How sad! Hahaha… I always wonder why.

Poseidon started of with a somewhat 3D feel of 360 degree QTVR of the ship… which seems to show out some flaws in the boat itself. The mirrors and all… but well… that scene is so forgettable compare to what you might continue to see.

There were many people on the ship, getting ready to celebrate new year’s day on the ship. Yes a perfect place to celebrate such day as Poseidon is the god of sea. Sailors prayed to Poseidon for a safe voyage, sometimes drowning horses as a sacrifice. In his beginning aspect, Poseidon created new islands and offered calm seas. When offended or ignored, he struck the ground with his trident and caused chaotic springs, earthquakes, drownings and shipwrecks.

I guess surely none of the people on the Poseidon did drown some horses as they were quickly being curled down by a big wave. Yes.. as big as some tsunami. From the poster everyone would have guessed it. Yeah.. the entire ship overturned. Now top is bottom, bottom is top left is right… right is left. Ah.. so confusing. But it’s fun.

Well… Kurt Russell take up the lead by playing the role Robert Ramsey a strict father, an ex Mayor. Yes, so strict that her daughter couldn’t even breath. Josh Lucas plays Dylan Johns, the super hero of the movie saving and well figuring how to get himself out of the sinking ship. However, a few people manage to tag along. Yes, that includes Kurt Russell as he needs help to find her daughter which is stuck in the disco downstairs(which is now upstairs).

Yeap, Kurt has all the money that he manage to get a walking map (a guy who works on the Poseidon and knows the way around). The others who manage to tag along is Richard Nelson (an architect), Maggie and son (some girl that Dylan is fond of), Jennifer(Robert’s daughter), Conor(Jennifer’s boyfriend), Elena (girl that help Robert’s daughter, Jennifer save his boyfriend), Marco Valentin (the walking map), Lucky Larry (some guy who drinks and talks rubbish most of the time).

As they were busy fighting fires, tumbling items, dodging waters and walking over dead bodies.. some love was being spread around in a small manner which to me.. sorta kills the movie. I just hate how a movie tries so hard to put some “I love you, you love me” thing in to the movie. I mean… hello… we are in a matter of life and death here. Worst part is when Nelson was so sadden with Elena’s death and all. And the way he look at her… I was trying to say like.. for god’s sake… she can be your grand daughter.

The action was simply superb. It keeps coming till you have no time to dig in to your popcorn. I really do think it was superb. Except the fact the movie is about to come to the end.. where there is this dodgy Armageddon-look-a-like scene. Where Robert sacrifice himself to dive in to the waters to off some switch which supposedly Conor has a bigger success chance. Jennifer… obviously did nothing but sit there to cry.. cry cry… which well makes me felt like slapping her up down left right and centre.

Okay… just when everyone who manage to survive all this and reach the top.. they just dive in to the deep blue sea and tada.. they found themselves a floated safety boat. YEAH… how convenient. It’s not like they hold on to a plank or something… they have a inflatable boat waiting for them. The best part, it’s not those boat being left by some safety crew coz towards the end they zoom out… no ship was in like 5km. Geez… how can such a good movie have such a cheesy and bad ending. Are we in a rush of time. Worst… the boat have this fireworks gun.. yeah some gun that shoots a firework to ask for help sorta thing. Oh… how convenient. It’s more convenient than any 7-11 shops. Yeah.. so no worries my dear friend. Next time if you do land yourself in the sea… it is always this convenient.

You will surely be fine. Some boat will be floating nearby to save you. But then again… a movie that starts of with a bad 3D opening and end with a bad ending. Then middle part is superb. Well.. but then again… the movie did make it big with Stacey Ferguson. Yeah the Black Eye Pea girl. Oh yeah… well she is Gloria in the movie. OH my god.. she can really sing Latino style songs and I guess she could really divert her singing styles.

But well… I still couldn’t get it when the critics give this movie a much lower rating than M.I III. Geez… I guess the Cruise over there did actually drown some horse to worship, for that reason… they just didn’t get crushed.

Wooo….hoo… Mission Impossible made possible by Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). I totally agree that movies like these are meant for girls to look at handsome guys while the guys drool over the sexy co-stars. Don’t agree? It’s a fact.

Many say they are looking at the effects, storyline and all… but then again…. how different can a Mission Impossible is when since day one… everything mission and stuff they do is like a photostat machine. Yeah yeah.. they got this top secret mission… no one else better to do it but Mr. Ethan… he takes up the job, being set up… caught in some drama…. finally found out the truth, manage to make mission possible and well.. tada… the end credits.

Anyone who have seen the series before know how things works. I mean… actually if talk about the storyline.. do you think it make sense? Like… the IMF force will die without Ethan. Yeah.. true, he might be the best, but what if one day he died… or grow old. Come on… Ethan can’t be there for them all the time.

So yeah, this episode shows that all. Ethan decided to lead a peaceful life with his fiancée, Julia (Michelle Monaghan). Yeah… beautiful and funny girl until some agent decided to pop him a present on his engagement night. Sending him a mission to save his protégé, Lindsey (Keri Russell). Well.. a team was assembled for this mission to save her.

Well… of course the mission on the first part was a failure or else the movie would have finish in like 30 mins time. Which also leads to Lindsey’s death. This time around, they are to find the culprit behind everything that has been done… well… which points to Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman).

Okay… Mr. Davian is suppose to be super villain in the movie. But well… I din manage to see any of the characteristics or anything done in the movie to prove he is so. He can’t fight for shit.. and well.. I guess he is best at pressing the bomb activation button which actives the bomb that is being placed in the head. I just felt there was a lack of effort to bring the character to a deeper and higher level.

Not to even mention the person who cast for the role Zhen (Maggie Q). She takes up a role as a team member being recruited to help Ethan. I just think this was the most pathetic character in the movie. No offence… I don’t really dislike Maggie Q. It’s just I think she is better of being a model rather than acting. In my humble opinion… she looked best in the scene where someone open her posh car door and she walked down gracefully showing off her sexy legs. Superb…. *clap clap*. I think her acting was rather wooden and not to mention her Cantonese sux to the max. As a Chinese myself… I don’t even understand what she is trying to say. In the movie.. she is suppose to say “Dui mm jue, ngor hou lun jhun (I’m sorry, I’m so clumsy)”. Instead, I “think” I heard her say “Dui mm jue, ngor hou LAN jhun” which practically have some foul language in it. I would rather cast Josie Ho for this character. But then again… to the Americans they would go like “Who? Josie who?” haha…. *rofl*

I didn’t know what others would think.. but the ending was rather crappy and well it’s like we were all in a rush of time. Worst is… there were many scenes… it was supposedly to be in Shanghai.. but well.. it just wasn’t Shanghai at all. I mean… you just don’t con people when they see this Pearl Tower and then just pan to other small states in China and say it is Shanghai assuming no people went to Shanghai before.

But well… what more can I say, at least this instalment of the movie was a better than the previous one. What more can we ask from Mr. Cruise now that he is busy with his baby and drama about marrying Katie Holmes or not.
