Family Ever AfterMalaysiaMy Travelogue

The Night Has Just Began In Genting

2030 hrs

Get set… ready and go! I can’t miss this; it’s my first time watching a show like this. Honestly, I don’t know much about these kinds of programs since I’m not really into reading books, and I never seem to have time for TV.

2100 hrs

We finally got into The Pavillion. It was smaller than I expected, but felt cozy. Genting did a great job hiring staff to help guests find their seats; even though my seat was easy to find, three people insisted on showing me the way, so I let them.

I thought our seats would be far from the stage based on the seating diagram, but they turned out to be excellent. Just five rows away. We had a clear view of everyone on stage, although cameras weren’t allowed. Before the show began, a group performed Malay dances, which were impressive, though few seemed to appreciate them.

X-TREME: Push The Limits!

The set constructed for the live show in Genting was the largest ever made. It truly stands out, a stunning design that looks like a high-tech toy factory. According to reports about the show’s production, it took three months of meticulous planning and execution to complete the set, which is built from solid steel.

The show opened energetically, with performers coming alive as the clock struck. The robotic opening dance was impressive and set an exciting tone. Soon after, dancers opened a box from which a woman in white emerged, performing stunning acrobatics. Balancing on a hula hoop in the air with just her feet and even her toes. Her graceful performance was both thrilling and entertaining.

We enjoyed a performance by a group of Spanish dancers. I have to admit, both the dance and the costumes were impressive. Absolutely stunning! It’s easy to see why so many people are eager to learn how to dance. I never realized it could look so attractive.

X-TREME: Push The Limits!: The Dancing Gauchos

The Dancing Gauchos came on stage, impressing with their skillful swinging and twisting hand movements. Their stunts were incredible! I’d love to be able to spin my hands that fast.

More details about the Dancing Gauchos: http://www.thedancinggauchos.com/

Afterwards, we enjoyed a lively tap dancing performance. I was truly impressed by the attention to detail in their costumes and could only imagine the dedication and intense training required to perform so flawlessly. The whole show was incredibly impressive and well executed. Absolutely stunning!

Seven Russian performers entered the stage, impressively balancing on a 12-foot pole using only their heads and shoulders. At one point, they nearly made a mistake that could have been life-threatening.

The stage dimmed briefly before lighting up again with a dynamic dance routine that introduced the motorcycle stunt inside the Globe of Doom. Each dancer wore punk-inspired clothing, held the front of the motorcycle, and delivered impressive dance moves.

The Globe of Doom show was honestly super cool and exciting. I’ve always thought motorbikes were awesome. There’s just something about them that feels really thrilling to me. Riding one gives off this amazing sense of freedom. While watching the act, three riders zipped around inside this giant metal ball at crazy speeds, pulling off some seriously impressive moves. It actually looked a bit like they were spinning around in a snow globe. And man, you could tell that even the tiniest slip-up in there would be a big deal.

The Ukrainian clowns gave a predictable performance, similar to what I’ve seen on TV, but it was still enjoyable to watch in person.

The show’s main highlight was the Wheel of Thrill, featuring a performer who walked, jumped, skipped rope, juggled torches, and walked blindfolded inside and outside a rotating wheel. He nearly fell several times and did fall during his final act, but fortunately landed close to the floor and only limped away at the end. It simply wasn’t his night. Hopefully tomorrow will get better.

All the stars gathered at the center of the stage and took a bow as they were introduced one final time. The 80-minute show wrapped up with a photo session, though taking pictures required payment otherwise, velverse would already be overflowing with photos.

This show is a must-see. RM56 gets you a 5th row seat for acrobatics that truly amazing, jaw-dropping and heart-stopping performances.

X-TREME: Push The Limits!

I couldn’t take photos inside, but I managed to snap a few outside despite my hands shaking from the cold. The pictures ended up being small.

Go Genting! Go Genting!

Believe it or not, I only found the time to write about my Genting Invasion today, even though it happened about a week ago.
Haha, I know it’s been a while but I still wanted to document the experience.
Why? I’m not entirely sure. Maybe it’s so that, someday, when I’m much older and find myself clicking through the archives, I can reminisce and think, “Oh, I did this… wow, I did that… wooo, I saw this handsome guy!”

Okay, to be honest, there weren’t any handsome guys in Genting—at least none that I noticed. Maybe next time I’ll have better luck!

0400 hrs

After finishing the midnight movie, I headed out for yum cha with my friends.
The night started relaxed but quickly changed unexpectedly.
Originally, I had planned to have dinner with Ganesh.
My sister said she’d give me a ride so we could head to Genting together, so I had to cancel my dinner with Ganesh at the last minute. But then she totally changed her plans on me again.
Honestly, looking back, I probably should’ve just kept my original plan and gone for that dinner!

0700 hrs

Mum called to let me know that dad was on his way down from Genting to pick me up.
I barely got two hours of sleep and felt like a zombie, especially after all that crazy packing I did before.

For some reason, I ended up packing about a quarter of my room to bring along. Looking back, I’m not sure what came over me; it just felt necessary to have almost everything with me, almost as if I were planning to stay there permanently. The urge to bring so many belongings was overwhelming, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I needed everything close at hand.

For some weird reason, I ended up stuffing nearly a quarter of my room into my bags for the trip. Honestly, I don’t know what got into me. It just felt like I absolutely had to bring almost everything along, like I was moving in for good or something!

Finally, dad  arrived. The moment they saw me, mum immediately said, “You’ve gotten fatter.” That was definitely not what I wanted to hear so early in the morning, especially after such a short night’s sleep and all the stress of packing.

Dad, on the other hand, denied that I had gained any weight, just like he always does.
I used to be a lot chubbier, so I guess that’s still the version of me in his head.
As long as I’m not as chubby as I used to, he’ll always got my back.
He’ll go, “No lah, it’s just the clothes she’s wearing.”
Honestly, how sweet is that?

0900 hrs

Mum made breakfast for all of us, serving up hot, steamed char siew pau and fresh coffee.
Char siew pau has always been my favourite. It’s actually been ages since I had one.
Seriously, maybe a year?
I can’t recall ever eating pau while I was in KL, and honestly, I have no idea where to find a decent char siew pau in KL. If anyone’s got tips, let me know!

During breakfast, I got to catch up with the whole gang: uncle, auntie, mum, dad, my sis, and her boyfriend.
The morning was just chill and filled with random chit-chat. Nothing fancy, just good food and even better company.
Sometimes, it’s these laid-back moments that end up being the highlights, don’t you think?

1030 hrs

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Me, my sister, and Jason started our day at the theme park to celebrate my sister’s birthday. We were excited to have fun together, especially since it had been a long time since my sister and I visited as a team.

While my sister bought tickets, Jason and I had some spare time.
He used it to test his camera, since I didn’t have mine.
He also offered to be our cameraman for the day, which I happily accepted.
I love being in front of the camera and the idea of having our adventure documented.Hahaha~

1045 hrs

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip
Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

We checked our heights. I’m definitely over 152cm.
That means I can play almost anything, except some kids’ games.
We’re ready to go and have our wristbands.
If anyone’s curious, today’s photographer is my sister’s boyfriend, Jason.
Here they are, Jason and my sister Denise. Isn’t that sweet?

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Day 01 – 1100 hrs

We’re all set, wristbands on—woohoo!
Super excited as we head into the theme park.
First up: the “Super Toboggan.”
No clue what ‘toboggan’ even means; my English isn’t great anyway, as I always joke “My England no good!”

The line was super short, which got us curious.
Turns out it’s because you’ve gotta weigh yourself, and if you’re over 65kg, tough luck, you’re out!
Honestly, it was awesome: barely any wait, and now I know my weight. Too funny!

Ride 01: Super Toboggan

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Serious facts about the Super Toboggan. It’s amazing.

Type of Ride: Intense, not for faint-hearted
Country of Origin: France
Track 1: 175 meters
Track 2: 554.27 meter
Total No. of Cars: 9 units
Capacity Per Car: 1 person
Speed: 2 – 3 meters / second
Duration: 2 minutes
Minimum Height Requirement: 122cm (4 feet)
Maximum Height Requirement: 183cm (6 feet)

When I first saw the cars, I joked with my sister, “Don’t they look like those toy cars for kids in supermarkets, just with wheels attached?”
We both burst out laughing, and she told me I could be the inventor for it someday.
Honestly, the ride does look a bit outdated especially the cars.
I can’t help but wonder how long they’ve been there.

We headed over to the next ride, a big spinning ride right by the entrance.
After leaving Super Toboggan, we saw the line wasn’t too long.
Watching it spin made me nervous since I’m not great with heights and have had blackouts before.
But I figured chances like this don’t come around often, so I decided to give it a shot anyway.

Ride 02: The Spinner

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Fun but true facts about The Spinner,

Type of Ride: Thrilling and fun
Country of Origin: Italy
Manufactured By: Zamperla
Speed: 3.5 meters / second
Duration: 90 seconds
Weight: 5000 kg
Total No. of Coloured Lights: 1500 pieces
Minimum Height Requirement: 107cm (3.6 feet)

Features:
48 individual seats
Oscillates and tilts
Rides can rise up to 8 feet

This was my first time trying out this ride.
Honestly, it looked super scary at first, especially when it started spinning!
I just couldn’t look down, and kept my eyes on the park scenery instead.
For the first 10 seconds, I was totally freaked out and even yelled, but then I got bored pretty quickly and stopped shouting.
Woo hoo! By the time it was over, I felt kinda wild.

After a wild ride, I was in the mood for something slower.
So I chose the merry-go-round.
I’ve always loved riding it.
Since I was young, I’ve found it especially beautiful and charming, perhaps because of all the horses, lights, and the overall atmosphere that make it one of my favourites.

Ride 03: Double Deck Carousel

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Slow but useful facts about the Double Deck Carousel ride,

Type of Ride: For all the family
Country of Origin: Germany
Weight: 3600 kg
Total No. of Coloured Lights: 1001 pieces
Maximum Capacity: 40 persons
Duration: 3 – 5 minutes

Hop on and enjoy the ride. Whether it’s a classy white horse, a lively black stallion, or even a cool chariot!
This 11-meter wonder, famous for its bright colored lights (it’s even been in the Guinness Book of Records), is something you’ve got to see.
With its unique steam engine and organ, it’s seriously impressive and loads of fun.

When noon arrived, the theme park was packed and there were long lines everywhere.
We ended up skipping most rides because of the huge crowds.
Eventually, we chose to try out the park’s new attraction that had an extra charge of RM10 per person.
Interestingly, in Malaysia, paying extra usually means there’s no line at all!
So, off we went—excited for our turn!

Ride 04: Flying Coaster

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

This is Asia’s first hang-gliding roller coaster, designed by Werner Stengel and built by Zamperla. Riders experience swoops, twists, drops, and the sensation of zero gravity, simulating realistic flight sensation with sharp turns and drops.

Minimum height requirement: 137cm
Pregnant women and persons with heart, neck or back conditions are not allowed to take this ride.

I passed all the requirements!
At first, I felt like Superman flying, but looking at the ride’s cage, it actually resembled Spiderman.
Maybe more like a flying Spiderman than a Superman.

Go, go, go… ole ole ole.
We’re here and about to give the Grand Prix Fun Kart a shot.
Haha… Not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous.
I can’t drive at all since I crash every time I play Daytona, or maybe my car just loves to stick to the wall.
Honestly, I doubted I could make it around even once but my sister said it was super slow that I won’t even touch the brakes.
Easy for her to say! She actually knows what she’s doing!
Me? I was kinda praying, but who knows to what. Whatever gets me through!

We had to sign this digital waiver thing saying Genting isn’t responsible if we crash, get hurt, or worse.
Like, do they have to scare us right before we start?
I’m already freaking out now since none of the other rides ask for it, just this one.

Ride 05: Grand Prix Fun Kart

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Okay… facts time again.

Type of Ride: Thrilling and Fun
Country of Origin: USA
Total No. of Cars: 10 units
Track Length: 800 meters
Speed: 10 km / hour
Capacity: 1 person / car
Duration: 5 minutes

I hopped into my lucky number 10 cart, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.
With a deep breath, I pressed down on the gas pedal and zoomed off.
At first, I felt pretty anxious, especially when I had to brake and overtake some people in front of me—a first for me!
Gradually, I eased up and found myself focusing intently.
I noticed my sister and Jason seemed bored about halfway through the ride, but I was completely absorbed in my first driving experience.
I gripped the steering wheel so tightly that my hands started sweating.
Honestly, I was really nervous! Next time, I might just put a “Newbie On The Road” sign on my car.

No guts, no glory. Well, I’ve finally found my moment of glory!
I managed to go on the Space Shot ride, and the best part is, I didn’t close my eyes this time. Haha… okay, you might be wondering what’s so impressive about that.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks so long I am impressed with myself!
It was my first time on this ride, and now I know exactly how it feels when a lift suddenly drops.

Ride 06: Space Shot

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Whoopie facts about the Space Shot:

Type of Ride: Intense, not for faint-hearted
Country of Origin: USA
Manufactured By: S & S Power Inc
Speed: 67 km/hour
Maximum Capacity: 12 persons
Height: 185 feet

Wow, I’ve never seen Genting from this high up before!
It really is stunning although only for those brief ten seconds. Then it’s up and down again! Honestly, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest on that first drop.
I felt like my ankles went weak in that moment.
Fortunately, we were seated; otherwise, I’m not sure what would have happened.
Help me! Someone help!

1425 hrs

It was lunchtime, so we ate at the canteen inside the Theme Park.
When we bought our tickets, we received discount coupons, so naturally we decided to use them. No reason to waste, right?
Honestly though, the food service there was disappointing.
It was slow and not very efficient.
Jason ordered the lamb chop, but it was awful and it only came with salad and fries, and they didn’t even include any cucumbers or tomatoes.
To make matters worse, it was so salty that you could barely taste the lamb itself.

My chicken chop was served last, it was OK but nothing noteworthy.
Since I was saving my appetite for mum’s cooking, I didn’t want to eat too much, so I gave a quarter to my sister and another quarter to Jason.
On the bright side, one cool thing about this place is that you can play games for free while waiting for your food!

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

We had to keep going! No way were we giving up that easily.
None of us wanted to vomit out our lunch, so we picked something chill that wouldn’t mess with our heads or stomachs.
As we wandered around, checking the map for stuff we hadn’t tried, it hit us that almost half the rides were shut down for maintenance.
With Raya and Deepavali just round the corner, they were getting ready for the crowds, so I guess we will miss out alot this time.

Yes,I’m leaving on a jet plane. Where to?
No idea, just wherever this Astro Fighter ends up, I suppose.
And honestly, of all the planes, I picked this lousy one that can’t even take off or land.
It just goes round and round in circles. How sad!

Ride 07: Astro Fighter

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Can’t fight the cold hard facts:

Type of Ride: For all the family
Country of Origin: Italy
Total No. of Jets: 12 units
Maximum Capacity: 24
Weight: 7500 kg
Speed: 2 – 3 meters / second
Duration: 3 – 5 minutes

Yeah, that’s right. I’m just an astro fighter stuck with this old, lousy plane.
If I really got thrown into a battle, honestly, I probably wouldn’t survive.

Woohoo… it’s our final ride of the day, the Antique Car!
I remember the good old days while it was called the Antique Car, they sometimes called it the Antique Bumper Car.
Back then, everyone just wanted to hit the paddle and bump into the car ahead.
This time, I’m behind the wheel, and I really enjoy being the driver!

Ride 08: Antique Car

Genting Highlands Theme Park Trip

Antique fact about the Antique Car ride:

Type of Ride: For all the family
Country of Origin: Canada
Track Length: 700 meters
Total No. of Cars: 17 units
Capacity Per Car: 4 persons
Duration of Ride: 7 minutes
Speed: 10 km/h
Car Length: 8 feet
Fuel Capacity: 21 liters

We missed many fun rides because most were under maintenance or had long queues.
By the time we finished, it was nearly 5pm, and we spent hours waiting in line.

1712 hrs

We went to First World Theme Park to buy tickets for X-TREME Push The Limits!
I wasn’t sure what it was about, but my sister said it involved acrobatics.
Even though I was exhausted, I agreed to watch it since I’d never seen anything like that before. The tickets turned out to be quite affordable: RM70 for scale 1 seats, RM60 for scale 2, and RM50 for scale 3.
Jason bought the tickets, and since there’s a 20% discount for VISA cardholders, we got the 5th-row tickets for only RM56. That was super cheap.

We returned to our apartment, ate dinner, took a bath, rested, and prepared for the show. I’ll talk about the show in my next entry, as this one is already quite long.

Genting, Here I Come~

Genting Highland Getaway

It’s been a long time since I last visited Genting Highlands.
Haha, I guess I’ve felt too precious to go anywhere lately.
Just staying at home and relaxing instead.
I toss and turn on my mattress, hug my teddy bears tightly, and imagine myself as a silkworm. Lately, I’ve been feeling less and less motivated to get up and move.
No! This can’t be happening to me. I’m still too young and have so much left to experience.

My sister’s birthday gives me the perfect reason to step out of my messy room.
I can’t miss it.

I have no choice, or I’ll be nagged endlessly. Surprised?
It’s that serious. You bet, no kidding!
This is the most extreme form of torture ever devised.

Honestly, the nagging works.
I really need some quality rest, a breath of fresh, cool air to help clear up my skin, greenery to soothe my eyes, mist to keep my skin hydrated, and most importantly, time to be with my family.

I packed my bag about three hours before the trip.
Surprisingly, I think I ended up bringing almost a quarter of all the things in my room.
I was carrying a huge Santa Claus-like bag.
Don’t ask me what was in it. I still can’t figure out what I packed.
Yet, even with that huge bag, I somehow managed to forget things.
It’s a bit sad… I feel like I’m just getting older.

There’s a lot to share about my Genting trip, so I’ll finish the picture montage tomorrow and show you all the highlights.

p/s – Jimbo, please don’t be jealous if I write less about my own things but say much more when it comes to Andy. I’m a simple person living a simple life, so I don’t have much to write. I jot down a bit about myself every day, but I only write about Andy occasionally so I need to include all the details.

Don’t complain, okay? I promised you a really long Genting post. Haha!

Made In India

Souvenir From Adrian

Finally, I get a chance to post.
It’s Friday and everyone’s either heading home, partying, drinking, dating, or just going to sleep. It’s a good time to update things since there’s no one here to give me extra work.

Gifts, gifts, gifts. Receiving presents always excites me.
Honestly, who wouldn’t feel the same? It doesn’t matter if they’re tiny or huge, inexpensive or pricey, just bring them on!

Adrian brought back a unique gift from India for everyone in the office: a chocolate-coloured glass-and-bead elephant.
Every time I see it, I’m tempted to bite it, wondering if it’s sweet. Believe it or not, I even have a miniature Taj Mahal to admire every day.
It’s incredible how much effort people put into making these kinds of souvenirs.
If someone asked me to do it, I think my glasses will be four inches thick by now.

Jane’s Wedding Dinner

Jane & Chun Tong's Wedding

Last Saturday must’ve been an auspicious day on the Chinese lunar calendar because tons of people got married on the same day!
My MMU friend Jane married Chun Tong, and my old coworker Dylan also said “I do.”

I wish I could be at both wedding dinners, but that’s impossible.
Since Jane asked me first, so I’m sticking with my promise.
Plus, it’ll be awesome to hang out with our MMU friends.
It’s been ages since we’ve all gotten together.

It’s rare to gather with such a large group, and as we get older, wedding dinners are the best time to reconnect. I’m grateful we had a great night chatting and catching up.

Many thanks to Jane and her husband for the opportunity.
Best wishes to Jane, Chun Tong, Dylan, and his wife for a long, happy marriage and may they live happily ever after.

Night Out With Dylan And Wife

Dinner With Dylan And Wife

Let me think back, oh right—this photo was taken just last week.
Yes, it was last Wednesday.
Please don’t ask why I haven’t updated my blog; I’ve been extremely busy.

We had dinner at Paris Restaurant in SS2. The food was excellent.
We dined with six other ambassadors. And it had been a long time since we gathered with so many ex-XMers. I miss them.

Thanks to Dylan for the great get-together.
By the way, he recently got married. No wait, his wedding actually got married last Saturday.
I’m sorry I hadn’t updated earlier. Sorry, I’ve been busy.

Porridge Steamboat

Porridge Steamboat

This is my first time trying out porridge steamboat.
I’ve heard about it for a while but never actually tried it until now.
How could I miss out on something like this?
I definitely have to give it a try since life is too short!

Actually, the ingredients aren’t anything out of the ordinary.
Just the usual fishballs, meatballs, prawns, fish, vegetables, and whatever else you’d typically find at a standard steamboat.
What sets it apart, though, is probably the base; it’s made with porridge.
I’m not entirely sure how to describe it, but the porridge base somehow brings a sweetness to both the meat and the fishballs.
As a rice lover, I totally love it and I’ll definitely try it again soon.
So tasty!

Wedding Gifts

Wedding Gifts

Ah… this is absolutely delicious! It’s really sweet and considerate of the Federal Hotel (the venue for Akina’s wedding) to have placed this on the dinner table.
Everyone loves chocolates—they’re my favourite treat and always lift my mood.
Sometimes I wish I were Willy Wonka so I could indulge in chocolate all the time.

I Dare Not Next Time

I Don't Dare Next Time

This is a wonderful song from the film Wait ‘Til You’re Older.
I really enjoy it, and its lyrics are both beautiful and meaningful.
Haha, Andy is genuinely great, and I really enjoyed both the movie and the song.
They definitely deserve full marks!

After watching the movie, I seriously question whether I would ever risk making that same mistake again.
I hope I don’t make the same mistakes again.
Yes, I really hope I don’t.

Akina’s Wedding: Wedding Bells Are Ringing, Ding Dong Bell, Ding Dong Bell

Akina Teo's Wedding

Akina’s wedding was last Sunday. I’m posting late because I just received the photos.
Gigi and I were late, really really late that night.
Sorry, Akina! I didn’t mean to steal the spotlight. Haha…

The dinner was enjoyable and gave us a chance to reconnect, chat, and have some drinks.
Taking this opportunity to wish Akina “白頭偕老, 永結同心” and time to be a “乖乖子”!
