49th MERDEKA Day |
 |
|
MERDEKA!!! MERDEKA!!! MERDEKA!!!
Everybody is busy talking about it. Celebrating it. Making the full use of their annual leave on friday for it. How can I not talk about it. Like what I said last year, I think most people have lost and forget the true meaning of the celebration, including myself.
We have slight knowledge about it because many of us study it to pass out history exams. Many actually love history. But well, when it comes to putting history to real life, I guess it’s just another chapter of life. Some even wonder we are celebrating our how many years of independence. While many others were thinking what they should do or where they should go celebrating.
I won’t say I am a patriotic person, but at least I would like to try to be. I like being in Malaysia although I complain about the jam. Probably because we get many different type of food. Yes.. food… I like food. I like eating Yue Sang during chinese new year. I like nasi lemak with teh tarik for breakfast. I like roti canai on my weekends. I like sambal pedas. Best of all, I love my friends and family here.
So yeah… I’ll be somewhere wandering tonight.. looking at fireworks, counting down to MERDEKA and for sure thanking everyone in past that make this day possible to celebrate.

Project Crossroad: Ghost |
 |
|

Ghost, we were all afraid of ghost when we kids. That is what the adults use as a weapon to make you not do something. For instance, my mum will always say.. “dun go there… you go lah you go lah.. got ghost one!”. Obviously as a kid, I was conned.
Yes, I guess I have grown up to think that it does not exist as long as I don’t want it to exist. So yeah, I am now trying to draw about it to over come my fears. But then… I still hide and cover myself each time I see horror movies.
Brian submitted the chinese version of ghost geong-sheep. Hehe… I think it was a cool intepretation of the word “ghost”. Never actually tot he would do something so different. I was totally blown away with the “WOW” when I receive his email!

Me and my ghost. I always think ghost should wear white. I don’t know why, maybe all the ghost story I hear says ghost wears long white dress… Habe long hair that covers the face… You can hardly see the face but you can see the eyes. It’s red. Have vampire like teeth. But comes to think of it, most of the ghost I heard of is female ghost. Any male ghost story?

First time appearing in this project, Alan submitted his very own version of ghost illustration. It is rather cute with some Ghostbuster like feel to it. But well… I think I like his tagline of “NO simple ghost drawings allowed”. And I must say.. your drawing ain’t that simple after all. Keep it up!

What is up next week?

Day01 - Cameron Highlands Trip: The Journey Begins… |
 |
|

Backdated event. Actual Event took place at 17 June, 2006.
The long awaited cameron trip post is finally here. Here you go… there is loads and loads of pictures taken… so yeah… I’ll do a step by step tour report. Hahaha…
It all started with a tiring morning. The night before, I attended angeline’s birthday party at Breakers together with gigi. It was a fun night out… except the fact that the party ended late.. around 4ish and then we went mamak. We each reach home around 5ish. Me and gigi and angeline is busy packing our bags for the trip! Last minit as usual
Brian is suppose to come around 6 something. Yeah.. he picked up gigi and angeline then come and pick me up. We all then drop meet up Jon and he drove all of us to breakfast at ss2. It was a nice morning. It’s been a long time since I wake up before the day was bright and eat dim sum. I always love dim sum… and early mornings. I used to remember each time I go back Ipoh, my mum will ask me to sleep early the night before so that I can wake up and eat dim sum. Me being so excited over dim sum will jump to bed early and wish it was early morning in a blink of an eye.
So yeah… when we first reach the dim sum place, it as dark as if it was midnight. Not much people were there… only three other men were sitting next table to us. The blur and not enough sleep version of me forgets to note down where I had the dim sum that day. So yeah… just pictures for you to drool at.
To me the food was just okay… maybe actually it tasted much better but just what’s on my mind is… get in the car and sleep…. BED…. BED…. BED….. sleep~ so yeah…. that spoils some eating mood. But I must say, the hot tea does serve some good to me.
We ate lots of stuff, like.. prawn spring roll (this is good), lo bak kou (white carrot cake), siew mai, fishball, har kau, fung jau (chicken feet), salad prawns and others.
We weren’t there for quite some time, but the drastic changes of brightness on the sky makes me feel as if I have sat there for like 4-5 hours. Sun rise, dim sum, trip… ah…. exciting.. fun… yet tired.
Yes, I need to sleep in the car. Wake me up when we reach!

Too Fast Too Furious Nightout! |
 |
|

Backdated event. Actual Event took place at 15 June, 2006.
It was the night we went see “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift”. Everyone is getting ready to drift along with the drift king. We on the other hand, just finish drifting and decided to stop by the nearest mamak stall and eat.
Right, eat.. eat… eat and talk about the movie. Me and Gigi totally think it was a waste that Han died. It is a waste he have to die like that. Well.. that is that… people die anyhow.
Well.. yeah Han… this is a salute to your bravery and being so handsome in the movie. Wooohooo…. too fast… too furious!

127 Days |
 |
|

It’s been sometime since one song kept playing on my playlist. Which also means it’s been a long time since Loh starts to complain I repeatedly play the same song.
When I first know about this song, it was when I was lepaking in the hotel room when I am in Bangkok. I think the MTV was beautifully shot. The colours is simply cool and the story to the MTV is practically very sad. Well, it isn’t a happy song anyway. So yeah.. I just never thought it would be that sad!
I first heard the Korean version, I didn’t understand what it was talking about at all but the energy in the song does carry on to me. I can sense the tensed and sadness in it. I guess that is what they mean by must have emotion when singing and bringing it out to touch other people’s heart.
Apparently, Vanness (ex-member of F4) and Kangta (ex-member of H.O.T) is now a new group thing. At first I wonder how come they need Vanness when the whole song is in Korean which turns out to explain, they have the song in Chinese version as well.
If you ask me, I obviously think the Korean version one sounds better. At least I think I click more to that version. Ah… a lovely song . Translations could be found in the comments section.

Project Crossroad: Fairy |
 |
|

Fairytale story… hemm I always listen to them when I was small. Not exectly listen, my parents dun tell me fairytales. I normally watch videos of it. I rewatch most of them many times, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty… and the list goes on and on.
I always wish there were some fairy beside me to help me and guide me at times. So yeah… it’s time to show the world there is some magical and miracle to believe in.
Me and my little fairei. As a little girl, I always wish I was a fairy. Got wings and fly around… got magic wand all. Small small size and can fly everywhere. Hehe…. I finally have the chance to draw my own fairy! Simple but cute. Oh it’s so magical!

Takeru submitted his artwork, koyuki-chan. I asked him why koyuki… he says it’s just a name. But it also means light snow. Ah.. a small, cute and as light as snow fairy! How adorable! Kawaii-neh!

*added on 25 August 2006* Heheh… Brian is late.. but well, he still manage to pull it all together and send us his Fairy-sheep. Very butterfly like fairy in the pastel like background. Totally makes everything seems so magical!

What is up next week?

Check Out Checker’s! |
 |
|

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 9 June 2006.
It’s time for me to be more hardworking in putting pics together. Everyone is complaining I backdated too long. Well… to choose 40 from 150 something pictures is hard. Every picture seems so interesting and nice. Everyone look so pretty/handsome. How how?
All the food looked just so good. I dunno, I have decision making problem. Yes, so it is a waste of time asking me to decide where to dine, where to go, what to see. I just want everything. Maybe I am just too greedy. No… no maybe… I surely am greedy.
Ganesh has been complaining that we don’t gather as we used to. So yeah, there’s this small little gathering around at Checker’s right after he came back from Sydney. Me, ikan and loh went there after work. Ganesh arrived earlier than us. We had dinner and drinks there.
Obviously Famous Grouse was the favourite choice. Hehe… that’s what we’ve been drinking each time we were at Checker’s. It’s a good choice. They all prefer to mix it with water. As for me… any alcohol that I drink must have that sweet taste. So yeah… I prefer to mix it with green tea. But recently.. I discover it tasted even better with ginger drink.
Did I ever mention the food was awesome here? Okay… lets re-mention if I did mention before, I think the food was awesome (except it was a little slow). But I personally think it was worth the wait. The portion is big and the price is reasonable.
Right, most of the people I know thinks the portion is big. Like the Roast Chili Beef that I had, it was spicy… yeah.. one of the hottest food (they serve it with either bread or rice)! By the time I finish the whole plate… I was drop dead full.
It was quite a cool night. I was surprised even VJ dropped by to say hi. It’s been a while since I last saw him Drinks… more drinks!! Yeah.. we need to gather more a bit!

Cafe 69: Do it the 69 way! |
 |
|

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 27 May 2006.
The night is still young when we finish our Mongolian food. *double burpz* Jerry and his girlfriend need to leave early for the KL International Motor Show. But before he left, he suggested that we go to this cafe named Cafe 69. It was a cool cafe. According to recommendations, this cafe is famous for it’s retro and cool interior design.
Right… my picture only feature the outside part, which practically looks like any other cafe. But the inside is a little different. It has this retro look. Every little section have a different design to it. Quite cozy and comfortable. Too bad it was rather packed and not catered for big groups like us, so we are left with sitting outside option.
According to sources, this place is also famous for tarrot card reading. Right, normally it would be a packed place. But yeah, they didn’t have that on that day. Jon finally manage to join us. He supposedly join us for dinner but was caught in this massive jam. So he ordered some snacks to eat. Everyone of us just ordered drinks.
Well, I just can’t keep track of what everyone ordered as the table is sorta long and well… my mind was rather occupied with thoughts.
I can surely say their food is creative and cool. I think how they decorate and cook the Tau Fu Pok is simply amazing. They took of the inside part of the tau fu pok and cut it to a tulip like shape. They then fried it. Served with salad where you stuff inside the tau fu pok. Wow… perfect combo. The crispy skin and cold and cooling filling. Just the best type of snack I would wanna have after a heavy dinner.
Cafe 69 was located behind Berjaya Times Square (most people call it Time Walk). It’s one of those old houses that has now been converted to commercial shoplots. It’s quite a quiet and peaceful place. Food were reasonably priced. Would surely go a few times more, this time.. I’ll cover the details

Jane’s Birthday at Inner Mongolia Restaurant. |
 |
|

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 27 May 2006.
Birthdays, and more birthdays. This time around, it’s Jane aka. bunny’s birthday. This time around we decided to have something Mongolian. Shirley recommended the place. Yeah, she said she heard numerous good reviews and she tried a few of the dishes there.
It was my first time there. I actually never heard of the place before. But well, there is always the first time in everything. So Mongolian food it is. Just as I got down the car, I saw this big red signboard stated Inner Mongolia Restaurant. Iwonder what it serves. It seems to be like some chinese restaurant that serves food from China.
I sort of wonder what Mongolian food taste like. I just saw it in many TV cook shows or drama series but never actually tried any before. All I ever know is they are rather famous for lambs and muttons. Hell yeah, no kidding. The way you see them cook in the TV, I wish my hand could just go through the glass and eat the dish up.
We ordered the famous Mongolian Hotpot. yeap, it’s where you dip the thinly sliced frozen meat and briefly boil it a little in the hotpot (we in Malaysia called it steamboat). Then they do serve us with this special sauce that is so fragrant. It’s called Qi Xing Xiao Liao (Seven Stars). Yeah, according to the waitress, it’s made of sesame paste, chopped leeks, fermented beancurd, chili oil, and some other ingrediants.
I think the tender meat taste just so good together with the sauce. Best of all, they still throw in pounded chili sauce if you want more spicy food! We ordered a mix version hotpot as some of the people couldn’t take spicy food.
We even order the Stir Fry 3 Type Mushroom as Jane loves vegetables On top of that we even order Roasted Lamb Shank. It tasted a little like rendang mixed with tandoori feel. But the meat was superb! So tender than the meat just melts in the mouth the moment it was in it.
Chris keep recommending us to try the Roasted Meatballs. Haha, he even mention with this dish, he could add a few more bowl of rice. The funny part, Shirley (Chris gf) doesn’t allow him to. Haha… it creates a little laughter in the room looking at Chris’s innocent and pity face.
Eventually, we ordered a few more small stuff as desserts and munchies. We ordered this Spring Onion Pastry which basically taste and feels like Roti Canai. Yeah, a spring onion roti canai. Tasted quite good, salty, a little fluffy and light.
The Chopped Spring Onions with Egg Pancake is a little strong. Some people just didn’t like it as the taste is rather strong and there were way too much spring onions.
We ordered one sweet pastry which I have no idea what it was. It was an instant hit among the gang. Everyone loved it. It seems like some deep fried sweet potato batter skin with red bean paste in the middle. It tasted good and not very sweet. The sweetness was just all right.
*burp* we were all maxed out… but say, drinks anybody? Obviously everyone agrees to it.
