Always a reason to party…

jimbo leaving town party

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 25 August 2006.

Bangsar it is again. I guess bangsar and jimbo is not seperable. Just 4 days ago, dinner at Alexis and now a big party at Telawi Street Bistro. Yeah.. a so-called excuse to party. Haha… no kidding. I called up everyone and just say “It’s jimbo’s farewell. He’s leaving town.” and no one can expect the response.

Everyone say they will turn up. When everyone asked me who is coming and hearing or looking at the list of those who is attending.. now that is scary. I guess they sorta have to scroll. Well.. I am not surprised. Jimbo is one big name. Everyone knows him. So getting loads of people to gather together isn’t such a hard to do thing!

Almost everyone that promise to show up… turn up. Which makes the place pack and we are lack of chairs. Friends from XM times… to ex-XM colleagues… to new-XM people are there. Some I dun even know the name. But well… that is what party is all about. Drink drink.. get to know new people… chit chat a little… run around… drink again.. chit chat a little… oh my god.. how can I forget take some pictures. Yes.. take lots of pictures 🙂

I really miss those times when a whole big group could just get together and hang out.

Address:
Telawi Street Bistro
1, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru,
59100 Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia

Curse of the Golden Flower

Curse of the Golden Flower (2006)

Movie Title: Curse of the Golden Flower
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/10)
Year: 2006
Curse of the Golden Flower official site: http://www.sonyclassics.com/curseofthegoldenflower/

Gold… gold… gold… and more gold. A colour one will not miss out as it takes up the primary colour of the whole set, clothing and to even tiny details like the accessories. It is said to be a lavish production… which used up $45 million and way surpass Chen Kaige’s The Promise to rank itself as the most expensive Chinese film to date.

Well.. it’s not a big surprise for me since it was a much awaited re-collaboration between Zhang Yi Mou and Gong Li. They both goes on different ways after Zhang made Gong Li a superstar in Raise the Red Lantern 16 years ago. Yes, it was that long ago since they both worked together. So yes, how can it not be lavish.. since it also incorporated the legendary Chow Yun Fat.

I WAS CONNED! Now… I went booking for the movies which stated the show was in mandarin. Well.. of course I expect to see the movie in mandarin because most of the stars speaks best in that language (except for Chow Yun Fat). Sigh… only to notice it was in some weird dubbed Cantonese language. Now.. I want a refund!

Okay… let me start telling you a bedtime story. Ah.. the opening of the movie is just so cool. Set in the Tang Dynasty which was during the 10 kingdoms era, it starts by telling out a lot about how everything in the royal palace works in a certain order and rules. And of course rules and order applies to everyone. The opening scene showing how the servants in the palace woke up, get dressed, make up was simply amazing and in order.

It then tells tale about Empress Phoenix (Gong Li) who is mother to the younger two brothers, Prince Jai (Jay Chow) and Prince Yu (Qin Junjie) and step-mother to the eldest, Crown Prince Wan (Liu Ye). For the past 10 years, medication was served to her every 2 hours under Emperor Ping’s (Chow Yun Fat) order as he believes she is diagnosed with some mysterious illness.

On the surface, everything looks just so normal but what’s hidden beneath the calm surface just gotta be shocking. The Empress was deeply in love and had an affair with Crown Prince Wan for several years. As years pass by, the guilt over the relationship increases. He tries many ways to avoid the Empress as he then maintains a secret relationship with the Imperial Doctor (Ni Dahong)’s daughter Jiang Chan (Li Man).

The movie reaches to another level when Prince Jai comes in to the scene. Prince Jai was sent away and join the front liners a few years ago as a punishment for his previous mistakes. As he is making his return to the palace before the Chung Yong Festival, a big welcome ceremony was arranged. However the Emperor cancelled the ceremony and rode out to meet the prince at the Official Inn where the prince stop and awaits further order.

There, the Emperor engage Prince Jai in a sword duel. I totally love this scene as it really shows the level of details on the armours. It quickly pan back to the Forbidden City showing it’s time for the Empress to take her medicine again. After experiencing seizures in the past month or so and a gradual deterioration in health, she began suspecting a change in the composition of the medication prescribed to her personally by her husband. One could really see how she was disgusted and her unwillingly to drink the medicine.

Jiang Chan was appointed as the new palace maid to serve medicine to the Empress. Being the daughter of the Imperial Doctor, she quickly discovers the addition of a poisonous secret ingredient to the Empress new medication. This has put her in a difficult position as she have to proceed with her orders while having this guilts watching the Empress drink down the poisonous medicine. At one event, she refuses to drink the last mouthful.

It causes a big drama as the royal family sat together on the morning of the festival. The last mouthful of medicine which the Empress refuse to drink was served again under the Emperor’s order to give a clear picture to the royal family how important order and rules are and in a way, shows out how much power he has. The Empress unwillingly drink the remaining of the medicine when Prince Yu and Prince Wan begged her. Prince Yu request to be the commander of the palace guards on the night of the festival, however the task was passed to Prince Jai.

Knowing something is wrong, the Empress hires a spy which turns out to be the Imperial Doctor’s wife (Chen Jin). She infiltrates the palace and informs the Empress of the poisonous secret ingredient in her medication. Unknown to many, she is the first wife of the Emperor. She was betrayed by the Emperor and managed to escape from death and imprisonment without the Emperor’s knowledge. While escaping, she met and saved by the Imperial Doctor, whom she later married while concealing her identity, and gave birth to Jiang Chan.

As the spy attempted to leave the palace, she was captured by Prince Wan and was brought to the Emperor’s attention. After knowing who she was, the Emperor set her free and promoted the Imperial Doctor, and send them off as a form of repayment for his past misdeeds.

Prince Jai on the other hand is concerned about the Empress health. The Empress then inform Prince Jai about the secret ingredient that has been added to her medication by the Emperor. She then asked Prince Jai to help her overthrown the Emperor and install Prince Jai as the new emperor. Being faithful and loyal, Prince Jai was in a dilemma but he quickly agrees to help the Empress when he sees her drinking the poisoned medication every day and yet she can’t object to it.

Prince Wan chase after Jiang Chan and met up with her at the Official’s Inn. There, their love affair was quickly discovered by the Imperial Doctor’s wife. She was so furious and shoo-ed the prince away. Jiang Chan then secretly chase after Prince Wan. Just as the Imperial Doctor is about to ask his wife why she was so furious, they were attacked by a group of ninjas sent by the Emperor to kill the entire family as they know too much of the Emperor’s secrets.

Another set of soldiers in red and blue showed up in the movie saving Jiang Chan and her mother and ensuring their safety back to the palace. Jiang Chan and her mother ramp in to the palace just in time and as planned, the Empress plans to reveal the true identity of the Imperial Doctor’s wife, and her husband’s secrets to all.

Jiang Chan goes crazy upon knowing she was actually having a relationship with his own brother. Prince Yu took advantage of the havoc situation and stabbed Prince Wan till death. He tries to rebel and wanted the Emperor to crown him as Crown Prince. He was later whipped till death by the Emperor with his heavy belt.

On the outside of the palace, Prince Jai and a large troop of soldiers (all in gold armour and each wears a scarf with an embroidered Chrysanthemum) marches in to the unguarded palace. He then leads his army to the main palace only to know it was a trap. They we surrounded and all of the soldier was shot till death.

I totally love the setting especially the golden accessories. However I felt the whole setting in the palace give me this feel as if I was looking through a kaleidoscope. I think it was a little too much colour for me to grab at one go and everything seems to just gel in smoothly as it is gold gold gold gold and more gold.

Well.. I have no problem with Zhang trying to set a new style but I just think it was too much cleavage and with Gong Li walking so fast most of the time.. it is kind of distracting. But I must say.. her performance was damn good and she proves no one else can come close to her in taking up this role. Her acting was so cool that at points… I think she even overshadow Chow.

Chow Yun Fat on the other hand… somehow make me felt his acting skills were declining. Jay.. haha.. what can I say… he just ain’t a professional actor and how he got casted for the movie is still a myth. Put that aside.. the ninjas was hilarious. Down to earth funny. They swing and make noise like Tarzan and I don’t know. I just don’t see them fit in any Tang Dynasty setting not to mention them swinging was so fake.

But well the ending fight scene was even worst. The CGI was fake… and the worst part… the Emperor ordered to spare Prince Jai’s life… and the general sorta like tell it out loud. But then ordered the archers to shot at the army. Looking at the amount of arrows… how possible could it not hit the prince? A whole 10 thousand army was dead except him.

I somehow think this was not Zhang’s best work and like House of Flying Daggers… it’s a beautiful movie.. but it’s lack of substance and plot. Well yes, of course many would be blinded by the sets and all.. but I personally think you just can’t ride on the success and do the same thing over and over and over again. People will forgive you once for doing it… but not forever. It’s time to wake up Zhang!

Death Note

Death Note (2006)

Movie Title: Death Note
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9/10)
Year: 2006
Death Note official site: http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/deathnote/

Wooohoo… I am fashionably late again. But well… this is a well worth to recommend movie. Then again… this movie arrive to Malaysia very very very late. Death Note was premiered in Japan on 17 June, 2006. However it was only shown in Malaysia on 9 November, 2006. Talk about me reviewing it like a month after watching it.

Well.. don’t really blame it. I watch this show when it was almost out from the cinema screen. I heard a lot about this movie. Saw the trailer many times but not many people is willing to watch this movie with me. Why? You ask me why? Coz it’s a Japanese movie and they speak Japanese. Don’t ask me why… I don’t know why. Many people around me just think it isn’t worth watching Asian movies in the cinema. So yeah, I finally found someone who is willing to watch this movie with me.

Death Note started of as a manga series written by Tsugami Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The manga was then adapted to an anime based on the manga and a Light Novel. So yes… the success of Death Note was proven when it was also adapted to the big screen and gained lots of positive feedback.

Death Note starts of with an incredible opening. With lots of handwriting opening. The movie started of by showing how Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara), a smart and intelligent high school student is bored living in this world full of corruption and crime. What angers him more is when criminals don’t get punishment they were suppose to receive for their acts. His life was about to change when he found a mysterious notebook, known as the “Death Note” in the middle of the road while he was on his way home.

Light read through the notebook only to notice that there were instructions stated that if a human’s name is written in this note, he/she shall die. At first, Light thought this was like some chain letter and think of it only as a prank. After experimenting with it and killing a few criminals.. he got a shock of his life. He knows this “Death Note” is for real.

In one occasion after killing a criminal with the “Death Note”, he met the true owner of the “Death Note”. Originally, the “Death Note” belongs to a Shinigami (death god) named Ryuk (Shido Nakamura). A Shinigami is death gods that writes names of humans in their “Death Note”. The Shinigami will take away the remaining life-span of the person and this shall prolong the Shinigami life-span.

Apparently, Ryuk wrote some of the rules and instructions of how to use the Death note on the first page in English because he believed that English is the most widely used language in the world. After he met Light, he started to explain more about the rules. The first rule that Light learned about was ” The note shall not take effect unless the writer has the subject’s face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected”.

Light was soon obsessed with killing all criminals which he believes should die. In his mind, he wants to create a world without crime… a utopia world. The sudden death of the criminals in the country gets everyone’s attention. The public starts to think and thought this was an act of justice by Kira (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word “Killer”). Light was somehow happy when everyone thinks of him as a god of humanity.

His girlfriend, Shiori Kashino (Yu Kashii) on the other had doesn’t think Kira’s act was right. This has made Light hides a lot of things away from her. He never did mention anything about the “Death Note” or what he has been doing to Shiori.

The sudden deaths has also caught the attention of the police. However the police have no clue of what is happening and thought of it only as coincidence. A top-rated yet mysterious detective known only as L (Ken’ichi Matsuyama) was then hired to track down and arrest Kira. Being an intelligent person, he quickly tricked and scope down Kira’s location. L finally located Kira and know he is in Japan. He even concludes that Kira can kill anybody without laying a finger on them.

It provoked Light even more when he knows L is his greatest nemesis and he is all out to prove their mental battle. The team of Japanese police officers led by Soichiro Yagami (Takeshi Kaga, more famously known as Chairman Kaga from the series Iron Chef) was quickly demotivated when many left the team fear that it would be their death soon when Kira finds out their name. The remaining of the team was frustrated as they only communicated with L through Watari (Shunji Fujimura) and a laptop. They then insisted to meet L.

The first time they met L, they got a shock of their life. L was younger than they thought. When the team first introduced themselves, they were quickly shot down by L telling them that Kira can kill them easily because he needs the person’s name and know how they look like in order to kill.

While working with L, they notice L has many quirks, such as sitting in a odd manner , his fondness for sweets is amazing and he hold items very delicately. He even likes to play with forks and sugar cubes. They were in a great battle as Kira is getting more professional as he has learned more about the “Death Note” such as “If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject’s name, it will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack.” “After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds”.

The battle between Kira (Light) and L begins when Light finds out that L has sent FBI teams to Japan to investigate the Kira killings. Light manages to trick one of the agent, Agent Ray (Shigeki Hosokawa). Agent Ray was then forced to revealed the other agent names. He was then killed by Light as well.

Naomi Misora (Asaka Seto), Ray’s fiancée and also a FBI agent is all set to find out and prove to the world who the real Kira is. The ending of the battle was sort of interesting… however a little twisted from the original plot from the manga… which of course I ain’t revealing. They also briefly bring in Misa Amane (Erika Toda), who is a famous actress, model and singer who madly falls in love with Kira although she never met or know who Kira is. It is obvious there will be a part two as it ends of with Misa getting the second “Death Note”.

And it’s true, Death Note part two is about to show or rather it was already shown in Japan. It is said to be showing on cinemas in Malaysia on 28 December,2006. But well well.. I guess we will have to wait for it and I will be patiently waiting for Death Note: The Last Name.

Conclusion about the movie, of course it is good. Or else you think they would score a incredible 9 out of 10 from me? I read a few chapters of the Death Note manga and no doubt.. they really do stay true to the manga except for some change. Well… I wasn’t shocked with the changes as to put a 108 chapter manga to the big screen… seriously.. we all know something’s gotta go.. and something’s gotta be added and changed here and there.

I think Ken’ichi Masuyama’s acting as L was perfect to the dot. The mannerism, the habits.. wow… he really can portray the weirdness and coolness of L. The best part… the CGI of Ryuk was cool. Right… some might no agree… but I think it was great. It looks exactly as in the manga. Of course it doesn’t look realism.. but like I say before, I never like 3D stuff to mimic real stuff as it was not meant to mimic so.

Overall… a must not miss movie.

Ah… after a fun trip to Thailand… I finally see Jimbo again… er… after 2 days. Haha… Gigi and Brian decided to dine and chit chat a little with Jimbo before he heads back to Aussie. The location… ah none other than the Alexis Bistro at Bangsar.

Why? Let’s see… Jimbo likes kacang and Gigi says Alexis serves the best tiramisu. Why? Coz it’s coated with honey gazed nuts on the outer layer of the tiramisu. This makes it crunchier and simply the best. Well.. I did try it out before. Haha.. talking about it.. it was a funny story. It is rumoured that eating tiramisu will give you this sort of first love feeling. Hehe… best huh? Not exectly for me (read more).

Food was amazing. Er… true to the core.. the food served here is better than the Great Eastern Mall branch. Even the cake isn’t falling apart when it reaches the table.

Name it.. we have almost all the different type of meat on the table. Beef, chicken, fish, duck, prawns… ah.. lots and lots of variety. Not to mention the different different type of cakes and pastries. I went for something more western since I think I had overdose of asian food for the last few days.

It was fun. Loads and loads of food.. we were busy talking about the trip… it’s amazing. Burp… jom makan lagi!

2007: passion – pass it on

A Bond New Year

A year has come and will be gone in like just 2 days. Has it been an exciting year for me? Have I changed? Would I say it is a good year?

Probably I am aging with time… I came to notice time is ticking extremely fast. Everyday… I leave my house in the morning only to see it again the next morning. I asked myself, what have I missed out? I really can’t answer that. Day by day just pass… at times I wonder how come it seems to be passing by faster than it used to be.

Is it just me being slower or is the clock ticking faster? I don’t know… I tend to feel I am running out of time while everyone around me just felt like there’s lots of time left. People will still be fashionably late or say stuff like.. it’s okay, I’ve got time.. I’ll wait. Time and tide wait for no man my friend… they wait for no man.

Well.. I guess that’s life. I used to wish I can grow up to be an adult sooner only to want to remain as a small kid now. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?

Okay… well, it wasn’t all that bad. These past few weeks, I have been busy planning out what I want to do and achieve for 2007. Don’t ask me why… I dunno.. sudden thing. I guess there was a burning desire in me which makes me want to plan things out and hope to execute it as planned.

Well… there are lots of stuffs I want to do… mainly with my career and creativity. Right, I have wasted lots of my time doing nothing and running aimlessly in the dark for sometime. So yeah… let’s hope I manage to follow the breadcrumbs this time.

I have come up with this project which I wish to launch it next year… er.. practically in 2 days time. It’s called passion. Well… this project was something I talk and talk about for like a year or so (click to view post). Of course I have altered the initial intention of this project.

passion - pass it on

Yes, you know I am dead serious about this when I spend such long time to create the logo and even spend months thinking of tag lines… colours and all. Similar to project crossroad… passion will be a collaborative effort. This time around.. it’s not limited to drawings only but a much more larger scale of stuff.

I just gotta say… just pass the passion for creativity around coz I seriously believe everyone is creative in their own way. Which everyone denies and only thinks that designers are the creative person.

Look around you… how you mix and match your cloths… how you imagine of decorating your own home, how you create new recipes and many others… it’s all creativity. So yes, get ready to see what is installed for you next year.

Good question of whether I will take out Project Crossroad? I have no idea… don’t think I will. So yeah… gonna max out my brain cells next year!

New Year Card

So yeah… by the way… happy new year to everyone, no matter where you are. Let’s hope it’s an enjoyable year waiting for you ahead. Err… you would have probably seen this in your mailbox so for those who didn’t receive it, here it is. Well.. I tried very hard sneaking to everyone’s blog to peek for their email addresses but well… some were plain mysterious so yeah, just wanna wish you guys a Happy New Year.

Bangkok Trip Day04: Goodbye Bangkok~

Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 20 August 2006.

We decided we shall miss breakfast today… yes, we need beauty sleep and right.. bye bye breakfast! Well.. not like we can sleep till very late since we are catching the 3pm plane. Which means gotta be at the airport around 1pm. Wake up before 11am… take a cab around 12 noon cause Bangkok is known for it’s traffic jams.

Yawn… we finally woke up… throw our luggage at the reception area and decided to just walk to the nearest stall and grab something to eat before heading to the airport.

Being someone “COOL”, we obviously gotta hang out at this Cool Corner located just around the corner from our hotel. It’s really been sometime since I last drank coke from a glass bottle. Most of the ones in KL was from aluminium cans. We ordered some fried rice. Er… okay, I admit, it was my last day and I am slacking. I forgot to note down the price and address. Don’t blame me… I just wake up from a party night… and I am sad! My holiday is ending!

But what really amaze me about this place… they have this DVD listing and time of showing the particular movie. So yes, it’s like a small cinema where you can sit down, order your food and watch movie at the same time. Now see… if I am staying a little longer, I would probably come and catch Herbie 🙂

After finish eating… we walk back to our hotel, grab our bags… dump them in to the cab and … sigh…. bye bye Bangkok. It’s sad. Really… time really flies especially when you are enjoying yourself the most. Ah… we check in and knowing we have lots of hour to kill, we decided to get some coffee. Yeah, I still haven’t have enough sleep.

The big signage is like waving at me and welcoming me. Hipnotizing me.. “come to me, come to me”. Ah… Jimbo got himself a Black Canyon Coffee Frost (80 Baht) while I ordered Black Coffee Champ Iced Coffee (60 Baht). Haha… Jimbo then ordered something from the Special Menu. I have no idea what it was. He wanted to munch something. Me… I don’t really have mood to eat anything when I don’t have enough sleep so.. yeah… if you see me with good appetite.. you will know I have a good night sleep!

Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~

Right after coffee, we stop aside and bought our airport tax ticket. Now… a reminder for everyone.

PLEASE KEEP 500 BAHT UP FOR AIRPORT TAX. This airport tax is not included in your plane ticket. Yes, for those who loves shopping. No matter how crazy the shopping spree goes, please do remember to save up 500 Baht. Or else… muahahaha… I dunno what you are gonna do man. Probably ask around for money.

The journey home seems so long. Probably coz I miss Bangkok and I am a little reluctant to leave. Sigh… go to sleep mandy… go to sleep… you need to stop missing everything.

Goodbye Bangkok~

Just as I got home… I took out everything I bought in Thailand and start taking pictures of them. Hemmm… buying stuffs isn’t really the hard part. The hard part is thinking to give what to my friends. It’s not like I don’t know what they like… it’s like… hemmm how to put in words.

It’s gives I choose with my heart… hence I will have to like it to some degree in order for the gift to be picked. Hence… giving it away is difficult. Which… *ting* I have an idea… I will buy 2 of each next time… then no problem.

Haha… okay, I love the plush toy keychains I bought. Awww.. they are all so cute. I wish I have more money to spend.. coz if I do… I would have bought so much more. Some funny and cool diary and pillow case, loads of tees.. to be exact, I bought 18 pieces~ and some small small deco stuffs. Talk about shopping power.

Haha… no I didn’t buy anything fancy or expensive. Most of the stuffs I have was from local Thai designers so yeah… I love the feel of it being exclusive. You don’t see everyone and anyone wearing the same stuff and walk around.

Now… who gets what? Yawn… too lazy and tired to tell… then again… does it matter?

Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~
Goodbye Bangkok~

Singapore – Mermaid, Lion and Durian

Durian or Merlion?
Durian or Merlion?
Durian or Merlion?
Durian or Merlion?
Durian or Merlion?
Durian or Merlion?
Durian or Merlion?

It has been a while since I last visited Singapore.
Singapore didn’t really change that much from the memories of my last visit (that is probably like 3 – 4 years ago).
This time round, I decided to follow my parents down to see the Christmas light up.

I remembered the streets were beautifully lighted back in my younger days.
So many bright and colourful bulbs, it made me wonder if they were on sale.
Santa Claus , reindeers and elf were anywhere and everywhere.
But what I love most was Santa handing out candies
That is how much I love spending Christmas in Singapore.
So yes, after so many invites from my parents and their friends, Singapore.. here I come.

The first day of the trip was tiring.
We woke up early and dad drove all the way to Johor Bahru to meet up with his friends.
We had a good lunch while waiting for Wilson (my parent’s godson) to drive us in to Singapore since it can be quite a hassle for foreign cars like us to drive in.

When we reach Wilson’s parents home, we did a quick unpack and rested while my parents we busy chit chatting away.
Yes, I can tell that my dad has a lot of catching up to do with his friends.
As for me, just chill and rest while listening to their stories .

Later that night, went out for dinner at a nearby place.
I have no clue where it was except the fact that is was at some HBD flat nearby.
Seriously, most of the HBD flats here look identical and I am sure I will be lost if I were left to wander around on my own.
Dinner is just amazing in which I am so happy that we get to try something NEW!
As in, I have not tried this way of cooking before.
This is the first time I tried frog meat steamed with Brand’s Essence of Chicken.
It tasted really good and sweet, and I really love how it elevates the taste of the frog meat and blends in well together!

Later at night, we decided to go for a quick sight-seeing along Orchard Road.
We just drive pass it and headed to  Woodlands as we know day 02 would be a full shopping day in Orchard. While driving pass Orchard, I was disappointed. Badly disappointed. It used to be a busy street full of lights and beautiful decorations… now, sigh… honestly, even the decorations in KL looks better than that! Bah… probably I am too tired, I need to sleep! I wonder why I feel so sleepy.

Second day was pure shopping day. Orchard Road, here I come.
My parents made appointment to meet more friends.
So before shopping, we went to have lunch at a Korean Restaurant.
I think the adults over ordered again! On a hindsight, at least I get the chance to try a little of everything.
From Kimchi Soup to Bulgogi to Bibimbap to loads of Kimchi and pancakes.
Burp ! Nothing beats eating all of these at one go.

Next, shopping spree begins! Somehow, nothing caught my attention.
Somewhat feel the items that were sold in Singapore was also sold in Malaysia, but more expensive (of course) due to the currency exchange .
The fact that I am broke also explains why.
Yeah, so tagging along parents for trips like this are good for my wallet.

For dinner, we manage to try some traditional Chinese food.
According to my dad’s friend, the restaurant owner came from China.
We get to try something new. I don’t know what they called, it is some kind of dough being cooked together with vegetables and meat.
It is a little sticky, but nice.
And the dumplings were so good. My dad’s godson loved it so much that we had to repeat our orders. Yummy!

Day three is the best. For the first time, we visited the Esplanade, which in my opinion looks like a big durian.
Not forgetting the Merlion Park as well since it was nearby.
The close up view of the texture of the Merlion is amazing. To date, I still wonder how a Mermaid and the Lion combined together?
We spend a lot of time taking pictures there while dad spend a lot of time trying to figure out what building and what building was there previously.
Yes, dad used to work in Singapore like 30 to 40 years ago, so he had a lot of story to tell.
He had been telling me histories and stories about Singapore which is pretty interesting.

So yes, the big DURIAN (Esplanade) is really beautiful.
I still cannot imagine how a fruit can give such wonderful inspirations to the designers.
Despite the disappointment I had with the Christmas light up, the Esplanade visit sort of compensated for it.

Did I mention, it rained non-stop during our entire trip in Singapore?
I am sure everyone from Malaysia would remember the massive flood in Johor.
And you guessed it right. I was one of the lucky ones that got stuck in the jam for 8 hours from Singapore while coming back to Johor Bahru.
A trip that normally only takes 40 mins is now 8 hours, not forgetting to add another 3 hours to reach PD.
So yes, that’s a whole day gone while my butt is aching!
