You are my SUNSHINE

1 year wiser!
1 year wiser!
1 year wiser!
1 year wiser!

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 11 December 2006.

Yippie yippie yeay… the little princess just came back from a relaxing Kuantan trip and yup, wake up to my big day! Haha… yup, the princess is one year wiser! Time pass by so fast… sigh, at times it is pretty much scary. But then again… it’s a happy thing.

Work is as usual, but lunch is different. Hehe… the office decided that we should celebrate my birthday somewhere else instead of in Hotel Maya (again). Hence we decided to try something different. Something really near yet we never try before.

Prem made a reservation at The Deccan Indian Cuisine. Woo.. of course I have no objection since I love Indian Cuisine. I love spicy food… but nothing too spicy. For a building nearby such a busy road, it’s really pretty much empty. We were practically the second customer in the entire place.

Since Prem suggested to dine here, we pass the task of ordering food to him. Seriously, I have much problem trying to pronounce what I would love to order. In cases like this… I would just point to the menu if I have to.

Okay… I always loved Palak Paneer. It’s actually cubes of cottage cheese cooked in spinach puree. I tried those before else where but I never know what it’s called. Most of the time I would refer to it as the spinach dish. I can really say, the ones served here is pretty much thicker than what I usually have. Ah… with cottage cheese… HEAVENLY~

Other food we had includes Murgh Lababdar (Chicken cooked in tandoor and simmered in rich tomato butter gravy flavoured with dried fenugreek), Machchi Ghulabi Handi (Fresh fish pieces simmered in a spiced tomato and brown onion gravy), Tadka Moong Dal (A rich preparation of yellow dal), Deccan Special Surf & Turf Platter (Assorted barbecued platter of chicken, mutton and fish delicacies), Roganjosh (Tender pieces of mutton cooked in spicy Indian gravy).

Everything looks like they come in small portion but mind you, they are seriously filling. Believe or not… with all the macho knights surrounding me, we can’t finish what we ordered. I guessed we ordered too much carbs. But… the Naan, Roti Prata and the rice is a must to go along with the dishes.

I really enjoyed all the dishes. They are just so yummy. Probably it’s been a while since I had proper Indian food. But seriously… I want more! Sigh… if only my tummy listens to me and make space for more food!

While I was happily dining like a princess, Prem’s phone rang. It seems someone was suppose to deliver something to our office. Since they can’t wait for us to finish our lunch, they asked for our lunch location and decided to send here instead.

It's a beautiful day~
It's a beautiful day~

When I was chewing… I saw this delivery guy holding a bouquet of flowers walking towards the restaurant. Then the manager came and asked if I am Mandy and said there is a delivery for me.

The first thing that strike my mind, “SHIT!!! Don’t tell me that is for me”. Don’t get me wrong, not that I don’t like flowers… just delivered to my lunch place is a little… dramatic la. Worst is everyone on my table looks at me one kind… asking me who send me flowers. I sorta thank god, that we didn’t actually dine at a packed place.

Then again… before even looking at the card, I already knew. How come? Not much people know I like sunflowers. Hehe yup, sunflower is one of the three flowers I like.

So yup, bingo… it’s from Gigi and Brian. Hehe… yup, they look beautiful don’t day? Yeah, sunflowers always give me this feeling that hope is always there. Probably it’s cheerful colour… I am not sure… but it surely make me happy.

Thanks for the flowers and for such a lovely lunch. *burp* It’s a really beautiful day. Then again, I still won’t make a wish 🙂

Look who's talkin!Me and my "ME-time"

I’ve come this far…

I've come this far...

Just TUK fast TUK furious!
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 19 August 2006.

Yeay… I woke up pretty much energized. Kinda have an early sleep yesterday. We sorta plan to have a great shopping day today since it’s the weekend and the first thing we would ever want to do is go to Chatuchak Market (pronounced as Jatujak, more widely known as JJ by the locals). We wake up rather early and have breakfast at the hotel. Er.. okay… it still have the same variety of food we had yesterday except they change the Thai food menu.

After breakfast, we head to the nearest Subway Line and jumps on the train eagerly to go to Chatuchak. Okay… Chatuchak is the largest weekend market in Thailand… and apparently they are the largest in the world as well. I heard lots about it before I even step foot there. Everyone who has been to Bangkok is talking about it.

Here is a helpful tip. When going to the Chatuchak Market, don’t be too excited and just jump off the train when you see the Chatuchak Park station. If you do somehow stop at this station… be prepare to walk a long way before you could even see the market. And that is not a smart thing to do since you will have lots of walking to do when you reach the market.

So where exactly should you stop? The trick is… stop at Kamphaengphet station. Chatuchak Market is right adjacent to the station. Just walk out of the station… and ola… shopping paradise.

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

This weekend market has lots of stuff… which I think girls would just go crazy over. The key ingredient here is MONEY! It’s really a huge market and if you do go in groups… I would advice everyone to stick together as it’s really hard to find one another there.

No… getting lost in there is a norm thing according to some people I know. The best part, sometimes, even the local themselves got lost in the market. The market has lots of variety which includes household items, cloths, pets, craftwork, food… and many more.

No worries, they do break up the variety to sections. So yeah… you might find one street selling the same thing… and when you take a corner… probably the whole street is selling some other things.

I bought lots of local designer tees and shirts and dolls. Ah… they are just so beautiful and cute! Yeap… there was this one shop me and Jimbo particularly love! It’s the shop which they sell lovely character stuff. I guess that’s the shop we both spend the most money.

Apparently they were 5 designers brand under one label called DIO (short for Do It Our self). Yeap, Byb was kind enough to explain stuffs that he sells. Apparently he, his girlfriend and friends set this thing up. Yeah… it’s just fun to get to know other designers out there. 🙂

We walk until we are pretty much tired where we decided to leave and go somewhere else for lunch. We then took the train and stop at Shukumvit station. We walk around for food. We pass by this huge garden with beautiful small lakes.

After a tiring walk, we finally decided to just grab something from any shop inside Emporium. I was forced to make a pick. So Chicurry was the lucky pick. Haha… why? I love the patterns they have displayed at their walls. Don’t blame me… I am a designer and deco’s do attract me!

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

We ordered a plate of rice for ourselves and something to share. We ordered Fresh Prawn Spring Roll (100 Baht) and Deep Fried Spinach Wanton (90 Baht) to share. I had the Grilled Beef with Lemongrass Herbs and Fried Rice (140 Baht) while Jimbo ordered Grilled Salmon with Green Curry served with rice (220 Baht).

Besides the nice deco that brings out the modern look, the dishes were promising. To start things off… the Fresh Prawn Spring Roll is totally different from the spring roll I eaten yesterday. Yes, a whole new texture and taste to it. Not to mention, it’s not like what that is being served in Malaysia.

This has a more smooth texture. The spring roll skin was rather smooth. Felt like it was being wrapped with Kuey Teow or something like that. Now.. the red colour from the cooked prawn was visibly seen. Ah… I love the colours the bright red from the cooked prawn and the green sprouts. Yummy!!!

The Deep Fried Spinach Wanton is something different. Let’s just say this is the first time I tried something like this. Hemm…. I tried pasta with spinach fillings inside but I never tried anything like this before. It’s like eastern meet western style. The crispy wanton skin and the soft and rich blended spinach filling. Woo… heavenly. I think it would be better if it was less oily tho.

Ah… my love for lemongrass just leaves me no choice but to pick the Grilled Beef with Lemongrass Herbs and Fried Rice. Haha… when I saw the word lemongrass… my eyes just rolled as big as possible. No matter how many times I flip the menu… others just doesn’t interest me anymore. The beef was superb. The lemongrass taste was strong. Wooo… perfecto… now… if the fried rice was a little warmer… I would say.. it’s a SUPER COMBO!

Now… what Jimbo had again? I don’t know how it tasted like.. since I was too busy with my own dish. Well.. the only thing Jimbo ever say was “I was never disappointed with any of the dishes.”

After lots and lots of shopping… we all decided to go a little sightseeing. After all, a trip should have a mixture of both. Both shopping and sightseeing pleasures. We hop on one of those pink cab and landed ourselves at the King Chulalongkorn Statue.

King Chulalongkorn Statue is located at the edge of Lumpimi Park. There were a few nice places to visit close by, such as the Anantasamakhom Palace and the Vimanmek Palace.

Yes, the King Chulalongkorn Statue is a must visit place (IMHO) because he is regarded as one of the greatest kings in Siam. The locals called him “The Great Beloved King”. He is the one man who elevated Thailand’s status in the world by abolishing slavery and forming strong allegiances with the world’s then ‘superpowers’ – Britain, France, America and Russia.

Standing right in front of the statue, one could already see the Anantasamakhom Palace. I would say the best time to visit this place was during the evenings… when the sun is about to set. Wow… brilliant bronze statue with a palace background. What more can you want.

We then walk around a little where we ended up at a temple. Ah.. finally, I get to go in to a temple! Quite a big temple I would say. Okay… obviously not as big as Wat Phra Kaew. But Wat Benchamabophit Marble Temple is big enough compared to any temple found here.

Not as fancy and not as much golden designs and so, the simple temple is enough to amaze me with their Thai roof design. They have so many sections to go to… they have the lakes, nice bridges, bells and obviously Buddhist statues. Too bad we can’t actually take pictures inside. But it was really beautiful.

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

It was drizzling when we are about to leave the temple. So we hop on to another cab that brings us to the Golden Mountain. Now incase you are confused and couldn’t locate this place in the map (which is impossible), you can actually look for indication like Wat Saket.

Now, let me explain, Golden Mountain is part of Wat Saket. So yes they are related and interlinked. Apparently, Golden Mountain is one of the most popular tourist area leaving the other part of Wat Saket less visited.

Why so? Golden Mountain is practically a hill in the middle of Bangkok city that gives you this nice beautiful scenery. One could actually have a good view of the whole Bangkok city. Now, initially, King Rama I decided to build a place to mark the entrance in to the city. However the land structure does not permit so. This dream was carried on to King Rama III. However, the Golden Mountain was finished under King Rama V.

Yes, I see steps. Lots of them. Everyone knows I am not a exercise person. So if I can do it, so can you! The steps weren’t that steep. And the journey uphill was amazing. There were so many things to see. I think one would forget they were actually climbing a hill.

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

The best things was the lines of bells. Awww… they look just so beautiful. Yeah, you are supposed to ring each bell for good luck :). At the top of the hill, you can see a large golden chedi.

Being not so lucky, the place was about to close when we were just a few steps there. I know… sad right? Sigh… so yes… take my advice carefully. Most places there close like around 4 – 5 pm. So… please do shoppings at night if you plan to go sightseeing.

Just TUK fast TUK furious!
Just TUK fast TUK furious!

We then decided to get back to the hotel and have some rest before proceeding to our nightlife activity. We have been through a long walking day and so we thought… how can we not be in a tuk tuk before.

Yeah, a Thai trip is incomplete without sitting a tuk tuk. So, we decided to jump on a tuk tuk and get back to our hotel since it was quite a close distance. Now… if USA have “Too fast too furious”, Thai just have their own version called “Tuk fast Tuk furious”.

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

No kidding… they were practically faster than some of the cabs around. Going left and right… squeezing through tight roads. Woohoo… just like what we call “Mat Rempit” over here in Malaysia. I wonder what will happen if Malaysia have tuk tuk.

We rested, Jimbo took a short nap while I was watching tv in room. After the short rest, we decided to walk around Khao San road. Yes, I saw a few catchy shirts the other day. Yeah, something different from those typical “thai” shirts found everywhere. I just walk in and bought like 6 – 7 shirts and just left. When I asked how much… the girl actually talked to me in Thai. Then I was puzzled and shocked.

Looking at my shocked face… she asked “Are you thai?”. Now that trigger the laughing button for me and Jimbo. After we left, we started back on the “Are you thai? You speak thai? Tuk tuk bring you here… wait for you.” joke.

We walk along the street to notice more and more funny signs used. Right, we never actually walk towards this side of Khao San before. Apparently this side of the road has more pubs and drinking area than the ones opposite our hotel.

We have dinner at the Sawasdee House. This place actually rooms above the eating area… but I wouldn’t really recommend it.. cause the eating area is open 24/7 and the music is quite loud. Yeah, similar to some pubs… so yes, if you want a good rest after a whole day of walking, this is not really the place you would wanna stay in.

Okay, let’s talk about the eating area. I really love the lighting and the decos at the place. Lots and lots of mixed style but I think it was comfortable. The best part, they have house resident deejay! Did I mention.. they thought I am Japanese? LOL!

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

We get to know a few backpackers that sits next to our table. They are all cool people. Cool enough to help me and Jimbo take picture. Haha… I guess this is our first and last together gather picture in Bangkok.

Yumm yummm… eating time. We ordered Green Curry with Chicken Soup (60 Baht), Charcoal Grilled Fish (150 Baht), Fried Soya Bean with Tofu (50 Baht). Yes… lovely eh. Our last dinner at Bangkok!

The Green Curry with Chicken Soup was good. Not something very thick… it’s quite nice but it comes with this green pea like thing. I don’t know… it wasn’t really happening for me. It was crunchy but have this bitter-ish after taste. I wonder what it was.

The Fried Soya Bean with Tofu is just right for the occasion. We tried so many flavourful dish. Now something more clear feels just so good. Everything seems just fine… till the Charcoal Grilled Fish came. Yes, we were being noted before hand that it might take a while since they need to grill it.

For 150 Baht, the fish size is just amazing. It’s so huge… I think it could feed 4 people! I am not kidding. It’s large and woo… the aroma was amazing. Even better when dipped with the special thai sauce. Woooo…

After dinner, we went back to the hotel and leave our shopping bags at the hotel. That is when we decided that we should go out and party a little. Yes… party! Er… since those red light stuff ain’t really something I am interested in.

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

I love this place. It’s really nice clubbing place. Yes, it’s really a great place to hang out at… but if you are above 30… probably you won’t like this place. After walking down the whole street, we picked and just go in to Club Astra. Woo.. they surely have great music.. yes.. even Jimbo was impressed.

They have lots of world renowned deejay’s performing in the club. Yes, it reminded me a lot about Zouk! I guess there was a theme for the day as the deejay dress like a surgeon while the waitress dress in nurse suits. Ah… kinky eh!

Just TUK fast TUK furious!

Now… they even have dancers that dance on the podium. Woohoo.. I can tell you they are sexy-li-cious! They can really dance. No… no hanky panky stuff. I was simply amazed and can’t set my eyes of them. The best part.. they wear nurse outfits too. *drool*

Like every other clubbing places, they all have curfew. When the places ended, the amount of people leaving the area is like when a concert ended. Everyone rushing to go home, everyone wants to get a cab… so it’s total madness.

At that point of time, the cabs won’t usually follow the meter. They would just tell you an amount. You either agree and hop in or close the door and wait for the next one. Me and Jimbo was too tired to bargain and just agreed to the amount requested. I forgot how much it was. I only remember Jimbo saying “I can’t even get lunch with that amount.”

Now… the feeling hungry after clubbing mood kicks in. Everywhere else was closed so we decided to head back to Sawasdee House since they are open 24/7. There, me and Jimbo each ordered Pancake with Ice Cream (70 Baht). Oh yeah… maybe I was too hungry. Everything tasted just so nice… even when the pancake was thick.

Yawn… I am too tired to move a muscle… I need to sl…eee…e…e……e……e………p

Only Have Feelings For You

Hebe & Fei Lun Hai - Zhi Dui Ni Yiew Gan Jue

Was driving to office and caught this song on radio.
Unlike most that I shared on an often basis, this song is more cheerful and fun tune.
I find the song so cute and I can’t help but to fall in love with the cheerful tune.

The song  只對你有感覺 (Only Have Feelings For You) was a song performed by Hebe Tien and Fahrenheit.
As both S.H.E and Fahrenheit are from the same management company, they are paired together to promote Fahrenheit – the new boy band.

The song tells the story about how a guy falls and have a crush on the girl.
So lovey dovey, and the chorus is really sweet.
微笑再美再甜, 不是你的都不特别.
Am I special? I think so 😂.

Translations of song in pinyin available (click on comments section).

My Movie Discovery

Happy Feet

Happy Feet (2006)

Movie Title: Happy Feet
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (6/10)
Year: 2006
Happy Feet official site: http://www2.warnerbros.com/happyfeet/

Now… the trailer got everyone to like it. The happy penguins. The little dance moves… the happy feet. When everyone was expecting it to be happy happy… funny. Yes, it’s going to be Christmas and all the happy and cheerful mood is in the air.

Okay… I got in, settled down and the show begins. I must say the animation for this show was top notch. Superb to the dot. But I didn’t really like it. Haha… sounded contradicting? Okay… it looks real and I don’t know… maybe I just never really like something 3D to mimic something real to perfection. I don’t know how to say… it just don’t feel right. But yeah… from the trailer itself, I never actually expect this movie to me so musical. Not that I hate musical… just… I never expect it to be lots of singing. Sounded a little like animated Moulin Rouge.

Let’s get it started, the movie started with a breath taking opening. It starts by showing how Memphis (Hugh Jackman) get together with Norma Jean (Nicole Kidman). Norma was one cool chick which was adore by many since she can sing really well. Obviously she have a some sorta love mark on her chest to differentiate her from the rest.

Well, as an Emperor Penguin, singing is a born with it thing. That’s how you find your partner and that is what it’s all about for them. The day has came when Memphis is left behind to hatch the egg while Norma goes hunting for food. While trying to get close together with other penguins to keep warm, Memphis accidently dropped the egg (which apparently was a bad thing).

When everyone’s egg hatched, Memphis starts to worry. The cute little Gloria (Brittany Murphy) came along with his dad to try console Memphis when suddenly Mumble (Elijah Wood) starts hatching. He was gifted with this special feet that just tap and tap and tap since the day he was born.

His life soon turn miserable when he finds out that he can’t sing. His natural tap dancing ability was not appreciated by his community. He soon felt more and more separated from the rest of the colony. To make matters worst, he has fallen for Gloria who happens to be the best student in the singing class.

Being labelled as a jinx, Mumble constantly got blamed when he tries to tap dance. One day, he was being attacked by a sea lion. While in the middle of the chase, he saw some mysterious things. His adventure soon begins when he landed himself at another penguin colony.

There, he met this 5 other Latino penguins lead by Ramon (Robin Williams) who appreciate his dance moves. He quickly got close to them as they all share the common dance interest. Being upset after being blamed to cause the fish shortage, Mumble is all set to find out the truth. Ramon suggested Mumble to ask Lovelace (Robin Williams). Lovelace is said to be one of the “knot it all” penguin in the colony.

They are all set to go find out what happen to the fishes and unleash more mystery. Going through thick and thin, they finally arrive at this “alien” place. There is where Mumble finally found out what happen to the fishes.

He just swim and swim and swim towards the big ship that took the fishes. He landed himself at a shore and was soon sent to the zoo. There, he felt weird and different as things around him that looks so real turns out to be just painted walls. He starts hallucinating when he misses his family.

Sad little Mumble was quickly delighted when a little girl appreciate his dance moves. His ability to tap dance spread around very fast. He was then tagged and sent back to where he belongs. When he got back, everyone still think of him as a trouble maker and wanted to throw him out of the colony for good. To make matters worst, he have this weird thing stuck to his back.

He tried to tell the others what he has been through and the “alien” (referring to humans) is coming to save them, everyone just laughed at him.

Well nevertheless, you would have know how it ended. I must say it was funny especially with Ramon and Lovelace. Yeah, all thanks to Robin Williams. The Latino speech was somehow, some part not clear and hard to catch up with.. but well… that’s Latino.

But I was quickly disappointed with the ending. I think it just got too serious for the “Happy Feet” title and to make matters worst, the stop fishing thing.. the protest… okay!! I don’t know towards the end I thought it gotten a little draggy, boring and just not happy any more.

To make matters worst, it makes as if they saved the penguins because they can tap dance. What happen if they didn’t do the tap dancing thing towards the end? It does mean humans will never have the protest thing and continue to fish.. steal all their fish?

Now come to think of it.. it’s not as if we are going to stop eating fish.

I came, I saw, I instantly fell in love.
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 18 August 2006.

Yawn… I am still too tired to wake up. I want to sleep.. but I can’t breakfast on the house is waiting for me. I… NEED…. TO…..W..A..K..E… U…zzzZzzzzz zz *after 30 mins* ..P.

After getting ready, tucking in the map, money and most importantly hotel’s card… we are all set to go have breakfast.

It wasn’t much variety but I think it was good enough to get me going in the morning. They have the western style breakfast section, some thai food, chinese style food and beverages.

The Shopping Begins!

I ate like loads of stuff, toast, sausages, scrambled eggs and more bread. I then go for some thai food like stir fry kailan and some curry brinjal with meat.

It was like amazing. The thai style stuffs were amazing. By far, everything I have eaten in Thailand taste extremely good. It’s like I can’t believe hotel breakfast taste this good as well.

Just amazing. I can go around KL and tell you food here wasn’t that great. Not tasty… la la la… but here.. haha.. seems so difficult to find bad food (not that I want to find one).

I must note… the coffee they serve for breakfast… my god… taste 20x better than Coffee Bean’s breakfast coffee. They should really look in to the problem man. I mean S.E.R.I.O.U.S.L.Y look in to it!

Right after the heavy breakfast.. we started our journey. As planned… we took a cab to Siam Square.

The Shopping Begins!

Siam Square is a shopping and entertainment paradise in Bangkok. To all Malaysians, Siam Square is similar to our Sg.Wang shopping mall. A place where you get lots of cheap and youthful stuff. The only difference is, Siam Square takes u a few street, while Sg. Wang is just a shopping mall.

Here, you can find lots and lots of weird theme cafe and local designer label clothings. The best part, it links to many other big shopping mall such as Siam Paragon.

My shopping spree in Bangkok has officially started. I manage to get some stuff here. But then… I was more amazed with the signages… with lots of funny and funky names.

There were lots of stickers and grafitti at almost every corner of the streets at Siam Square. I try to act funny and took some pictures there. But everyone around me was looking at me in a weird way. Sigh…

The Shopping Begins!

We then continue our quest to Siam Paragon. It is an upscale shopping center, similar to Starhill Gallery. It has been listed as one of the biggest shopping centre in Asia.

The interior designs for the restaurants was simply amazing. Not to even mention the small ponds in side the mall. It’s very spacious and without a doubt, very classy and elegant like.

We walk around since Jimbo is looking for a nice and decent bag. Me… I am just walking around for souvenirs. There are lots of high classy stalls around but you surely can find lots of cute and fun stuffs inside as well. I manage to get some local designer stuff here as souvenirs. While Jimbo… sad for him. He didn’t get to find anything he likes.

When our stomach start making noise, we know it’s time to look for food. We went to the lower ground level and search for food. There were lots of stalls and restaurant there. Very big food court, lots of options… and best of all… nice deco.

Ging Kalpapruek was pick of the day! It was quite a busy place. Quite a pack place where people just come and go, come and go. Er.. then again, probably it’s lunch time.

Here… let’s see, we have Fresh Spring Rolls (85 Baht) as appertizers then move on with Fried Mixed Vegetables with Oyster Sauce (85 Baht) and Fried Chicken with Chili and Cashewnuts (110 Baht). I also ordered Passion Fruit Juice (45 Baht).

The Shopping Begins!

Okay… the fresh spring rolls was served with some special sauce, a stalk of spring onion, more chili and a dash of mustard. The sauced poured on to the spring rolls were rather sticky and it’s not the sweet and spicy type we used to have over here in Malaysia. This one is rather salty.

What was wrapped inside the spring roll is pretty much the usual stuff. The combination between the sauce and the spring roll.. hemmm.. it’s just refreshing. I never know how much sauce can influence the taste of something until now. Just opens up so much more possibility.

The fried mixed vege was pretty much standard. To me nothing can go wrong with fried vegetables except the fact that you over cook it or throw in super duper lots of salt in it. Otherwise… everything is pretty much standard!

The Fried Chicken with Chili and Cashewnuts was hot! I was totally deceived by the looks of it. It looks like if I could just seperate the chili away.. everything would be fine.. but nope, they sorta pounded the chili to small pieces as well and cook it together with the sauce and chicken. So yeah, it’s flaming hot!

We then walk out and take some pics around. We then walked to the nearest train station and try to just go around town. Similar to the MRT in Singapore, the BTS surely does cut down lots of traffic jams in Bangkok. From the Siam station, we hop to Nana. We took the train that direct us to On Nut which I think was a rather funny name.

Ah… one must wonder, why Nana, why not any place else. Okay… Nana was an inside joke… which I guess only a few people know… in fact very few. But well.. besides that, it’s just a station away from Sukhumvit so yes, sight seeing a bit.. then stop at Shukumvit and just shop again!

The Shopping Begins!

I wasn’t sure if Nana is a hit place among tourist or not, but it sure have lots too see. The buildings was rather different than the ones you see at the big places like Sukhumvit or Siam. It’s not that modern. They have lots of cute an funny signage.

Jimbo the decided he wants to call friends he get to knoe from a workshop and go out and hangout. While he hangs on the phone, I went on snapping pictures around. There were so many things to snap. I just can’t help it.

The Shopping Begins!
After a tiring walk, we stop at Green House Terrace at The Landmark. It was quite a place for coffee where we both just sit down, lepak a bit, drink some coffee, enjoy some small town sights and just rest our legs.

I had the Iced Cappuccino (90 Baht) while Jimbo have their Iced Coffee (90 Baht). I must say, it was just a nice feeling.. doing nothing while everyone is working, sitting down by the roadside drinking ice cool cappuccino. Just amazing! Surely do feel time just stop and I could just do this sorta stuff on a daily basis.

Along the way I took pictures of their thin and sleek ATM machine (I think it would be a goner in a days time over here). Being a “bully” I just gotta snap a picture in front of the Bully’s cafe! And not to mention, while we were busy complaining our petrol prices are expensive, take a look at other country’s price.

The Shopping Begins!

We carry on walking and walking… thinking we were heading to Sukhumvit, we were actually heading otherwise and ended up at Phleon Chit. Being a little tired of walking, we took the train from there and stop at Shukumvit where Jimbo will meet up with his friend at the Emporium.

The mall there was not as luxurious as Siam Paragon but still have everything a mall need. Branded stuff, household stuff, food section. Everything was just there.

After walking for like a while, Jimbo’s friend arrive and we sat down for coffee at Starbucks. The place was just next to the Emporium. It looks rather classy, sorta dim with some down lights and from there… the sunset scene was just so amazing. Oopss.. I was to in to it till I forget to snap some pics.

The Shopping Begins!

While drinking coffee, Jimbo’s friend tells us more about Thailand and places we should visit and go see. I like how he gives us options on like sight seeing, you should go this, this and this place while if you want to go shopping, you should just hit on this, this and this places.

He even recommend us to come visit thai during the ermm “Water Festival”. Ah… he said it would be a fun time, but we must make early arrangements as Bangkok would be packed with tourist from around the world.

After a long chat, we all decided to make a move and head to the place Jimbo’s friends picked for dinner and a meet up. It is said to be one of a very famous restaurant in town.

It was actually quite near to where we are. We just sort of like walk for 10 minutes and we arrive at this small little house like place. Very cozy and comfortable place called Sonie’s.

Apparently this place is a very famous place and used to be packed. Yes, it is said that it’s quite difficult to find good fusion food in Thailand. But well, I guess it was quite my day. 🙂 Sonie’s is one of the famous fusion food outlet in Bangkok. While marketing itself as a Thai-Japanese restaurant, Sonie’s ends up delivering almost every culinary influence ever to touch upon Thai shores.

When Jimbo other friends arrive, we started ordering so much food… so much that we all have a hard time finishing.

We ordered lot’s which includes sushi, pizza, salad. It is said that their very own pizza, Sonie’s Pizza is not to be missed. Unlike other pizzas that uses this thick bread as base, Sonie’s Pizza had shrimp, crab, and flying fish roe crumbled on top of rice and seaweed.

The secret to its success is an added element of what I think is crumbled rice in tempura batter, fried again to resemble in taste and texture crushed junk food, like a bad-for-you deep-fried rice cake. Supposedly an appetizer, forget about sharing and order one for yourself.

We even have fresh sashimi, which was a typical Japanese dish. The Fresh Salmon Pizza was amazing also. I think it was nicely blended fusion food. A little Japanese with Italian. Just a perfect combo. You can see the pizza was baked and topped with fresh salmon. It just added a new texture to eating pizza. The cold and hot blends in just so well.

There were many more weird and different type of rolls and this big soft shell crab salad that came later on. But as usual, when I was too in to eating, I forgot all about the snapping.

Dinner was on Jimbo.. so I have no idea how much it cost 🙂 Anyway… thanks bo! Lovely dinner, lovely friends you have.

We chit chat a little and they were telling how they get to know each other in the workshop and all the fun they have… oh… it just makes me jealous.

After dinner, everyone was sorta busy with their own agenda. One of Jimbo’s friend was kind enough to drop us down at Silom where have a short walk around again. This time we focus more on looking at the stalls than walking around looking for food. Jimbo manage to pick up some deco lightings for her mum while I just look around.

We manage to even walk in to Patpong Road. Wow.. I was totally shocked to know that actually the stalls at Silom pass by Patpong Road. I always think Patpong is a street where you could just walk in the middle of the road… looking left and right, with not much people except poll dancing girls, guys… loads of guys asing you to go in and take a look thing.

But nope, there were stalls selling Thai stuff from the start till the end of Patpong street. But well, I wasn’t comfortable shopping there as people will come approach you with this funky books with funky names.

Oh yes, never know one can do so much stunts! Now yes, if you would just a life size bottle opener, perhaps this is a place to get one.

We then just head back to hotel and doze off. It was really a tiring day considering the amount fo walking, and shopping done. Total damage… hemmm let’s not get to that part yet!
