Backdated post. Actual event took place on 26 June 2006. Yet another company lunch. So much fun, so much food… *burp*. Haha, it is Zul’s birthday. So yes, we jump right downstairs and had lunch. This time around, we decided to go another place at the hotel. We dine at Still Waters. Still Waters provides a contemporary dining experience with strong Japanese presence known as ‘Sosaku’ cuisine, which means creative cooking. Yup there is a lot of fusion thing going on around this place. The exotic Japanese cuisine is fused with European and Asian flavours. I like the surrounding with lots of japanese sake bottle. The calligraphy on the bottle looks beautiful and colourful. The ambience is so beautiful with ropes and lighting. Looks so nice. Too bad Adrian have to meet a client and can’t make it to join us. Prem ordered the Grilled Lamb. It looks good with this fusion taste to it. It has got this japanese sauce with the western feel. Loh ordered the Chicken Terriyaki which have a very good presentation. I didn’t try what he had as my food arrived and.. yeay.. so many things to eat, don’t know where to start first. Mine, azli and zul’s was the set lunch. Woo… What can I say.. it’s really filling. Yummie.. waiting to celebrate the next person in the office’s birthday. Still Waters at Hotel Maya email: info@hotelmaya.com.my |
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 19 June 2006. Haha.. the day after I return from my Cameron trip, my office decided to go have lunch buffet at Hotel Maya. Yeah, that’s the closest place ever to my office. Some may ask what’s the occassion. It’s actually a welcome lunch for Zul. Yeah, he is the new designer. Yes, another addition to the Flare family member. Which still make me the only girl in the office. Well, supposedly Zul has join us for like a month or so… maybe two. Yeah, so it is sorta like a delayed lunch thing. Hehe.. well which is also an excuse for us to try out their new theme. This time around it’s the Chinese like theme. Most of the stuff were cook in chinese style. We’ve got shark’s fin soup, kam heong prawns, stir fry vege with mushrooms, mussels, stir fry beef and loads more. Prem was complaining why the sashimi’s were still there since they change the theme. But well, I guess it’s always been there. No matter how the theme changes.. they surely have it there, but unlike previous round, they didn’t have fresh oyster this time, instead… it’s been replaced with some kinda “la la”. Well… what can I say, “welcome to the family” (yeay.. another guy for me to bully) *evil grin* Maya Brasserie at Hotel Maya email: info@hotelmaya.com.my |
Movie Title: Miami Vice
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (6/10)
Year: 2006
Miami Vice official site: http://www.miamivice.com/
The 80’s baby would know this movie by heart or just by listening to it. Yes, bringing the famous TV series in to the big screen. It’s really a daring and brave move since it was a big hit back then. Which makes me wonder when they are bringing Airwolf, The A Team, McGyver or Knight Rider to the big screen anytime soon.
I hesitated a long time, to go or not to go. To see or not to see… since Colin Farrell disappoint me like no other actor does in a million years over and over and over again. Seriously, it all started with S.W.A.T, which I think was a sloppy, boring, uninteresting, no peak movie (can you imagine I went with a group of 4, the other 3 were sleeping, I was about to fall asleep and kept looking at the watch wondering when it would end).
I promise myself to never see another Colin Farrell movie but Alexander was too great to resist! I can’t help it when Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins is in it. I tot like… okay… I see a dim light at the end of the tunnel, which actually turns out to be a false hope!
Yes, I swear to god.. I will not see another Colin Farrell movie ever ever. Which explains why I give “The New World” a pass. But then, I have sinned! I watch another Colin Farrell movie! Sigh… who could resist Jamie Foxx and better still Gong Li. I mean it’s GONG LI!!!!! My goddess! And if it wasn’t for her… Miami Vice is yet another passer by.
What can I say when they are beautiful cars, nice watches, nice sunglasses plus my goddess in it. What I can say, minus all that off, it’s yet another forgettable movie. Which means it’s bad… no no.. not bad… to me that’s very bad! A famous big hit TV series now turns forgettable?
Okay, I am not sure if the movie was censored or what, but this is the first movie I saw without an opening credit. It jumps straight to the movie where you see Detective James ‘Sonny’ Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Detective Ricardo ‘Rico’ Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) was in a club on some operation when suddenly Sonny got a call from an undercover that is handling other cases. His cover was exposed and his team members were brutally killed. Which makes me wonder why that undercover didn’t call his boss but instead he called Sonny and Rico.
Blah blah blah… drama here and there and then Sonny and Rico was then pulled in to the scene doing the undercover thing since their department is the only department out of the case scenario thing. Yes, now from a normal detective, they are going to find was to fit themselves in to the drug trafficking industry.
Their main target, Arcángel de Jesús Montoya (Luis Tosar), is the mastermind behind everything. But before they could get close to him, they would have to convince José Yero (John Ortiz) that they are worthy. While in the process of getting close, Sonny hooked up with Montoya’s business partner/woman, Isabelle (Gong Li). Which apparently means bad news.
Although this movie was directed by the same person who directed Collateral, this one is far from it. It’s more of the S.W.A.T director. It’s one long boring movie. I am serious, I kept flipping my handphone wondering what time it was. Is it ending soon? Is anyone dying anytime soon? Is the credits going to come rolling any minute soon?
Besides the gun fight scenes that is quite realistic, which is where they add in shaky approach and the gun wounds, it was plain boring.. talk talk talk.. yak yak yak… which half the time I wonder what they are talking about and why do they need to talk that much.
The partnership between Farrell and Foxx was not intense enough. They just seems to have no chemistry. It’s so fake. It sounds fake, it looks fake especially when there is a scene Rico talking to his boss about him trusting Sonny. “I trust him, without a doubt”. To me it sounds like just reading the script. Not to even mention the ending is like no ending when they just bring you go round the bush and end up at the starting point with no closure or anything. Which in my opinion leaves a big room for second episode.
The best part, detectives in Miami seems to earn a fat and juicy income, allowing them to drive Ferrari, have designer watches, super cool sunglasses and all. Don’t the ICAC ever investigate them? I wish I was a detective man! I seriously wish!
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 18 June 2006. Woohoo… the tour finale. We’ve come to the end of the Cameron Highlands trip where we all decided to go to the BOH Tea Centre at Sungei Palas. According to many, it’s a must go place. Yes, it was newly refurbished and it looks great now! We were half way going to Sungei Palas following the narrow and winding road. When suddenly Gigi say she wants to stop over and take picture. Yeah, according to her, that’s a special spot where she took her previous Cameron Highlands picture. So she wanted a picture at the same spot this time. Obviously taking picture is not a problem, since everyone is ever willing to do so! But trust me… going through thick bushes, the tall grass and insects here and there… it’s sorta scary. I dunno.. for me, it have this after visit feel. Like the insects are still crawling on your skin even after like 2 hours.
The moment we reached, Jon parked his car and we have to actually walk up to the tea centre. Not a lot of walking. Just a tiny hill. Angeline and Brian dared each other to run up. So yeah, this miss out some photo sessions while me, gigi and jon slowly walk around enjoying the scene and snapping pictures. That instant I set foot on the top.. it felts just so great and different from the last time I came.. which practically is 5 years ago.. erm.. maybe 6 years.
We ordered lots of stuff to share around. Tea and coffee for everyone, cakes, curry puff, apple pie and the price is ridiculously low. It’s almost half of what we pay for at Starbucks or Coffee Bean. I am serious, It would have cost like RM100 bucks if that is what we order in cafes in KL.. but we actually spent less than RM50 for everything on the table. Yeah, we all had fun. We took lots of pictures that will make us laugh when we flip back and see it over and over again. Not to mention the funny moments we have. That’s right, that is what you get when you mix all different type of people together! Till the next trip, I would have to say. From Cameron, With Love! Other Cameron post: |
Movie Title: The Devil Wears Prada
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (10/10)
Year: 2006
The Devil Wears Prada official site: http://www.devilwearspradamovie.com/
A movie that needs not much explanation. As classy as the heels is. As devilish as portrayed. As red hot sexy as it is and as classy and tastefully done like the Prada. A title that would just lure you no matter how you try to resist.
Got that right, I am one of those who just can’t resist the temptations. I fell in love with the poster the moment I first saw it early this year. I kept telling my friends.. I want to see The Devils Wear Prada. They asked me what is it about… I said, I don’t know. They ask me who acted in it. I say, I don’t know. But I was just so in love with the teaser poster. Which actually just show the heels and the title.
After I saw the trailer… it was like I want to see it even more. So much more that I can’t wait for the official screening. I just got to watch the sneak preview! When I did… I came out a satisfied viewer! Very much satisfied. I mean, I was never that satisfied for a movie I put so much hope and expectations for. The all somehow have some flaws that I just could help but complain. But no… at the end on the movie, my thumbs just went uncontrollable. Yes, 2 thumbs up. Would be even more if I have lots of thumbs. DEFINATELY MUST SEE!
Okay, the movie tells tale about Andy Sachs aka Andrea (Anna Hathaway), a naïve girl who just graduated from a university in journalism. Right, she just move to New York with his boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier). She is all set to join one of the biggest and most famous fashion magazine company. Yes, it is said that if anyone survive working for Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) for a year, they could get any job at any publishing company they want.
Going in to an interview Andy is not prepared for, she was totally amazed. She knows nothing of the fashion industry, has never read the RUNWAY magazine (is equivalent to the Holy Bible in the fashion industry), and doesn’t know who Miranda Priestley is. However, she was chosen before millions of job applicant. Yes, Miranda decides to break the tradition to hire the “fat but smart” one.
Andrea just look at this job as a stepping stone. And thus, she doesn’t really click with her other colleagues especially Emily (Emiliy Blunt) who worries she would take over her position. She did screw up in her first few months as she practically have zero knowledge about the fashion industry.
The peak of where she is in desperate need of help is when she fails to get Miranda a flight ticket out of town to see her twins performance. She then seek for Nigel’s (Stanley Tucci) help to please Miranda. From that day onwards.. oh yeah, she just turn from a floppy newbie at work to a professional and confident assistant. Yes, you can be amazed how good looking cloths can boost your confidence.
When Miranda demands her to obtain the next unpublished Harry Potter manuscript, you can sense that she is trying to force her to quit, but it just makes her stronger. She is set to go all the way to get what she wants. She did way well than expected. So well that Miranda decided to bring her along to Paris. Right, the Paris Fashion Week thing is a dream for everyone in the fashion industry. Emily is dying to go and now Miranda force Andrea to tell Emily that she is replacing her for the spot.
The hype of the movie comes when RUNWAY boss wanted to sack Miranda and Andrea is doing everything she can to warn Miranda about it. The outcome of the ending is just so amazing. I never would have even figure out that strategy that Miranda have in mind (if I am in her position).
Well, I can’t exactly tell you what happens coz you seriously got to see it. I can say it is such a powerful story with lots of powerful lines. Lines so powerful they practically blown me away. I am also amazed with the subtle message it brings. Like how unfair this world is to woman who wants her career. Yeah, man always say they wanted to grow their career and with this excuse, they expect their woman patiently waiting for them. Not spending time for dinner, weekend or holiday or even time to just talk. But when a woman who wanted to grow their career, they are being labelled names, said as vicious, not understanding. The best part, some ended up in divorce.
Yes, at times things that we thought as a great offer. An offer no one could resist but well, it’s not always so. Everyone have their own dreams. This movie tells how many have sold their soul to the devil doing something that everybody is envy about and wants badly. While some just live what they dream about and work hard to make it come true.
What can I say, your critique doesn’t interest me. Please bore someone else with your critique.
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 18 June 2006. It’s time to leave the nice and cozy place. After the breakfast, we packed our bags and get ready to leave. Before leaving, we actually run around the place taking panorama pictures. Jumping and running around like a bunch of busy bee. most of the angles in front of our room were shot. I bet you we didn’t miss a spot! I personally like this side spot where there were lots of hanging morning glory and a wooden swing. I somehow think it was a comfortable spot and not to mention romantic too.
Before we reach the cashier, we decided to revisit the TV room and snap more pictures. Not to mention we even invaded the dining room section and snap snap snap. It’s kinda dark there so not much picture taken. Right after we check out from the chalet, we dump our stuffs in to the car and then continue to have fun at the English Tea Garden. Hehe… you must be amazed how much we all love the mini swing. And poor Brian, yeah.. one of those pinching session has started again. So yeah.. more fun soon arise when he is being tortured and punished by fellow girl power. Yeah… that is what happen when men mess with the wrong girls! Right after we finish running and jumping around… we decided it’s tea time again… this time… a better place. Other Cameron post: |
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 18 June 2006. Wah… it was such a refeshing sleep. Snore… snore… and more snore. The moment I wake up, I can hear the others making noise. The guys got up and get ready first as they are the nearest to the toilet. They then ordered breakfast for everybody. Mmm… good old American breakfast. It comes with 2 sunny side up, toasted bread, sausages, hashbrown, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans. Not to even mention orange juice and coffee. It was sorta filling when everything adds up. But what I actually like is the environment I have my breakfast. A small table under the big umbrella, in a lovely garden with lots of greens, cold breeze.. ah.. it all just makes a perfect combo. 🎉Time to celebrate again!🎉
A special salute and tribute to my greatest idol, Andy Lau!
🎂 Happy Birthday Andy!
Time for me to sneak out, get a small piece of cake and celebrate.
It’s quite a norm for me to eat a slice of cake for the day.
Yes, in a way a cheat day for me as well.
[Click here] to see last year’s post.
The same wish all over again, every year just to wish that he stays happy and healthy.
Heard he has been troubled by sickness and the tabloids just wouldn’t let him go!
I’m happy to hear that he will be spending his birthday with his family and close friends.
It’s interesting how as we all grow up, wishes and celebrations can be that simple.
He said if he can play bowling with his friends he would be very happy.
So yeah.. bowling 🎳 anyone?
HAPPY 45TH BIRTHDAY ANDY!
![]() Gangster is one of the in topic when I was a kid. Mum will tell me about it… how bad they were. Movies will show about it. But since I saw Young and Dangerous… my perception towards gangsters…. ermm.. they look just so cool and handsome compare to reality. Hemm… I wonder why. Brian and his gangsta-sheep is ready to rule the underground. With the big gun in the pocket, the sufficient bling bling and not to mention tattoos… Ah, just good enough to scare the shit out of normal people! My gangster is dark enough to live in the underground. Grey enough to be lost between black and white. Scar face enough to scare little kiddos and press them for money. However it has a naive heart wishing for world peace! Ah.. how contradicting. What is up next week? Anyone and everyone is welcome to join. Be it good or bad… it’s just something we do for fun! Generate some cool ideas and well.. surely fill up some of our boring times 😀

Movie Title: DOA: Dead or Alive
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/10)
Year: 2006
DOA: Dead or Alive official site: http://www.uip.co.uk/deadoralive/
What can I say, just like man, I like to look and admire beautiful woman. So here I am, in the cinema surrounded by drooling guys. All bringing big packs of tissue to wipe their saliva. Some busy drinking sprite that never seems to finish. Some guys can even shut their mouth up and kept on “wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”. But well, how can I complain when the girls all have nice body.
I heard about DOA for some time but never actually play the game before. Thus.. the main reason of seeing this movie… Obviously is because of the not very pretty yet somehow have the charm to lure me to cinema… who else but Devon Aoki. Seriously, I have never missed any movie she stars in
Warning: If you are not in for the girls. Please don’t hassle yourself to even walk in to the cinema. The storyline is weak, actions were not that impactful. Yes, I repeat.. go only if you want to see sexy chicks!
The movie opening was dramatic enough to roughly introduce and create some background character for everyone. The first in line is Kasumi (Devon Aoki) who supposedly is a Ninja Princess. She lives in this sacred temple where she is not allowed to leave. Once leave, she will lead a life as a commoner and will be killed. But she is set to leave the ninja village to seek for his brother. She was invited to the DOA as soon as she manages to leave the ninja village.
Tina Armstrong (Jamie Pressly) is a professional wrestler. She is sorta bored of living in a fake world and wants more real fun. She was selected to join the DOA when she was seen fighting with some pirates when she was out cruising.
Christie Allen (Holly Valance) is a master thief. She is said to be the best in the job. She was recruited to fight in DOA when she is seen fighting with the police while in Hong Kong. Rather fake but guys would drool to see how she put on her G-string before fight and slip her bra in. Apparently she was being set up by Max (Matthew Marsden) in order to get her invited to DOA.
Ayante (Matassia Malthe) is a slave in the ninja village and is sent to kill Kasumi if she refuse to return to her people. She apparently is Kasumi’s brother, Hayate (Collin Chou) lover.
Helena (Sarah Carter) is the daughter of Douglas which is the creator of the DOA. She just reach the age of 21 and will compete in DOA for the first time.
The selected people were being brought to a secret place where they all will fight to determine who is the best. The winner will get 10 million as a prize. The fights happen at anytime and any moment. Unknown to them, Donovan (Eric Roberts) is up to something. He killed Douglas because they don’t see eye to eye on DOA’s potential.
Donovan wants to use the data’s and strength of the contestant and sell it in the black market. How he do so? Before the contest starts, he puts some ermm sorta like tacking bugs in to the contestants body. So by the end of the day, he sorta like “harvest” them and collect it in a cool looking shades.
With that shade, he could know the moves of it’s opponents and defeat them easily. Yes, and to test the product, he save the best for last. Kasumi’s brother, Hayate.. that was rumoured to be dead was sent out. Apparently he is not dead. He is just being kept away as he is the best fighter.
Fights and more fights… obviously and old man is no fight for 5 beautiful and sexy woman. So yeah, everyone practically knows what happens.
Well, there are always things I could never understand about this movie. Which well, lets hope someone who played the game or understand the movie could answer me.
1. How did the DOA know Kasumi will leave the village and sent her the invitation just as she stepped out. If she is never gonna leave then she won’t get invited?
2. If only invited people get to go to the DOA, how come Ayane manage to sneak in and do the like assassination mission going?
3. Why doesn’t Weatherby tell and just destroy the program from Day 1 of DOA before everyone of them fights?
Ah…. too many questions to ask…. the plot is just too weak and according to some of my friends who play the game, the movie is far from the original. Not to mention even the occupations were so different. Christie is said to supposedly an assassin but was a master thief in the movie. And all 5 girls actually isn’t that close to each other.
But well, movies will always be movies. So just sit back and enjoy the girls!
